Pre-Delivery Treatment

Featured Replies

So today starts the build week for my Octavia - can't wait.. It seems like forever since I signed for the bugger.

What I want to know is, what sort of pre-delivery treatment can I expect the car to have? Will they automatically give it a good going over with some decent protection (AG Lifeshine for instance) - or should I find a local detailer and take it straight round there?

I also have a 5 year old and an English Springer Spaniel.. The dog I'm not worried about - she's pretty clean in comparison :giggle: but I have told the child that there is to be no eating / drinking in Daddy's new car.

If you are a parent yourself (or have been) you will know this means diddly squat. Dirt, goo, oooze, sticky unidentifiable stuff and smelly things follow little boys around. So how well protected will the interior (cloth not leather) be? Should I get that some treatment for that before I let him loose inside it?

Finally - if I should be getting it detailed / protected - any products recommended? i know there are loads of threads on here about "which is the best", but I don't want to buy something which will be incompatible with the dealers wax / protection treatments.

Thanks in advance..

Unless your into detailing yourself there's little point in getting lifeshine or a detailer to do anything, it will be stripped of wax and swirled with the first car wash. If your into good washing and waxing then yer, a detailer is the way to go. Claying and applying some good wax like Autoglym HD is quite easy and cheap. Having the dealer apply anything is a waste of money as the stuff can be got on ebay for a tenna.

Get some 303 interior protector and apply a few coats of that and get some suitable seat covers as well.

Ours should also be in build this week, I've been trying to decide on what treatment to give it once its in my mits. I need to make sure the sales guy passed on the "no machine polish" when it goes into PDI

Why "No Machine Polish" ? What do they use Belt Sanders? :giggle:

Seriously though, I know the showroom will deliver it polished, but I doubt their detailing will be the same as most people's detailing on here.

I'm no expert detailer, unlike some people on here, but I am willing to learn (by practising on SWMBO's car) first of course..

They won't polish it unless there is damage, so it will just be pressure washed and rinsed with a wash wax solution after the TFR has been used.

As long as they dont use a big ugly brush and a drum of filthy water as well..

That is the frightning vision I have in my mind of what will happen my one before i get it.

I am instructing them NOT to use and brushes etc.

Indeed, instructions are no machine polish until I've seen any defects, nowt done by the work experience guy and as little contact with the paint as possible!!

I explained that I will look over the car with a fine tooth comb, torch and if needed a paint thickness gauge. The sales guy knows I'm serious so it will be down to him to pass it on if they want the balance paying. No point me bringing a new car home and needed to spend hours on it to remove any defects or marring.

I'm sure it will all be fine but just wanting to make sure

Cheers

I will have to give the same instructions.. I cant think of anything worse than an untrained monkey running a brush across my new car, after he has done 5 others without a change of water, and dropped the brush on the floor half a dozen times..

Mine was spotless ans totally unscratched at delivery.

Dont worry about it

Having prepped quite a few motor's which have been brand new but untouched from the dealer, the Skoda's I have attended too have been in good condition, your never going to get a 100% perfect paint finish over the whole car and bound to get a mark in transit but the condition on the whole has been impressive..............

Still needs the TLC of a machine pass after some claying in my opinion to ensure a good base for LSP's but the key thing is to get some protection on there from the start as it's only you that can damage the paintwork............

Indeed, I'm spending my time looking at new LSP options and trying to justify them to the Mrs as "needed for the new car"
