Window Tints

Featured Replies

Hello,

Hi, i'm getting my windows tinted in the coming weeks but i'm abit unsure of what to go for.

i don't know whether to go for;

1) limo black (5%) just on the back windows leaving the front two clear

2) dark smoke (35%) " "

3) dark smoke all round

4) limo black on the back windows with dark smoke on the front two

5) none of the above

please let me know what you think and if you pick number 5 state what you think i should go for instead of 1,2,3 and 4

Thanks Ryan90VRS

Be very careful about putting film on the front side windows, as they are normally up to the limit from the factory.

yeah, i think you can put a light smoke that lets about 75% light through which i think is still legal, but i'm not too botherd about it been illegal, i had dark smoke on my front windows on my old car and never got pulled so i'm not too fussed about it. but thanks anyway

it's illegal for any tint to be applied to the front 2 windows. worse case if caught 3 points and a £60 fine so i would'nt bother

On my old car I used to have dark smoke all round and I'd been pulled twice but not for my windows n they dint even say owt so I dunno what to do.

The traffic cops in Glasgow carry a wee machine in the boot that has wee sensors for either side of the tinted window. Tells you on the spot if your tints are stronger than the legal requirement.

I'm pretty pro-police in general (within reason, definitely strong liberal ties!) but my reaction to seeing that was we've got better things to spend pennies on that a daft machine to measure window tints!!! (Looked v expensive).

I've seen them before I don't think there too bothers round my end there's loads of cars that have tints all round. I'm thinking of going for limo with dark smoke seen it on an astra other day at thorsby Market looked good.

ive just been reading up on the laws of window tinting and as sivrs said it is indeed illegal to put film on the front windows they must allow 70% light through the side and the windscreen. window%20tint.gif i want to get a film put on the front because it makes it harder for thieves to smash the glass as ive actualy had my old car broken into they couldn't get through the front but managed to get in through the back

i think there is an anti theft film that you can get that is clear (don't quote me on it tho :giggle: ) now it's illegal is the only reason i've not had mine done. :'(

You can get clear security film for that.

Dammit, beaten by Si :dull:

I've seen a video of that clear security film on youtube but doesnt the window tinting film do the same?

Yeah but the clear stuff wont get you tugged :giggle:

The problem around this way is all the young drivers who think that they can black the windows and then see out of them, they are an absolute hazard to life.

I will be getting mine done in a very light smoke and hopefully I wont get any problems.

As per your list I went for option 2 on my FL Octavia vRS - 35% tint on rear windows, but I also had a clear UV film applied to the front doors for heat/UV protection. See this post for pictures - Octy vRS Tints

that looks good that looks like a extra you would have put on from new.

Quick update on the tints, I had them done today I finally went for 5% on the back and 50% on the front. I decided to go for this option for a few reasons mainly because on slot of the new Audi's they have very dark windows, another was privacy and also to help keep the car cooler with the recent hot weather! I went for 50% on the front which looks slot better than it been left un-tinted in my opinion, it's not too dark that I will get pulled and if I did I think I would be abit unlucky to get done as I see mainly slot of Asians in crappy civics and micra's with slot darker than mine anyway so much for a quick update I'm off to bed!
