damn CEL light

Featured Replies

Hi i have an 01 occy vrs which has been standing for a few months got it back on the road recently and every morning when i start the car up theres this sucking noise comming from under the bonnet (sounds like someones left a vacuum cleaner on) after about a minute the sound goes, i had a look and it appears to be comming from a pipe that comes from the air filter box and dissapears down to the bottom of the engine.

A few days later as i was driving my CEL light came on so took it to my local independant VAG garage who hooked it up and said the only fault they could find was comming from a faulty secondary air pump, which they told me would be £300-£400 to replace . so just a couple of things i'd like to know what on earth is a secondary air pump and would it cause the light to come on and also the sound, and does this price sound a bit steep ?

Regards

Damian

It's been done to death on here, and don't pay that much for a new one, as you can repair yours for a few quid

ok thank you i'll go have a search :)

Search for "secondary air pump rivets" that should give you a few threads to be looking at

I've got a feeling that is a ridiculous price for a new one too, I'm sure you can get them for just over £100

Or you can just rip the whole secondary air system out as quite a few people on here have done
