Adjusting gear linkage

Featured Replies

I followed the haynes manual today to adjust gear linkage as i fitted a forge quick shift and wanted to adjust linkage to make sure precise gear change can be achieved.

You have to push the 2 locking collars on the linkage cables down to compress the springs and lock into place then push down on the selector arm and press in a 90' pin on the side of the gearbox to lock the shaft. This is where i have the problem. I just can't seem to get the pin into lock the shaft. It seems that the pin just turns around and does not keep shaft locked. I have tried pushing pin in harder but no avail.

Starting to really annoy me on a simple task.

Any help or alternative method would be appreciated.

I removed my Forge SS a few weeks ago and reset the gearbox.Could only get 1-4 no 5th.I know what i did wrong after playing for a couple of mins.

Hi buddy thanks, will check vid out . I was kinda thinking i pushed down too much.

You need to push it down slightly and you will feel it lock in.

Mine took a few times at 1st as the lever seemed it didn't want to lock in place, but it did after a few goes.

PM me if you get stuck.

cheers for the vid its ace and simples lol

I had the same issue when I did mine last year. The Haynes manual is useless at explaining it! As far as I remember the locking position was in the gate between 1st and 2nd. So no shaft rotation, and shaft 3 positions from the top position (1 from bottom), then the pin pops right in and it's nice and easy from there. Made naff all difference to my gear shift to be honest!

Top vid there buddy.

Yep was pushing down too far on shaft. Still i think I have worn the 90' pin as it still wants to pop out once it is located and twisted, especially when i am releasing the springs off lock back onto the cables. Anyway sorted and feels a little better now.

I think the short shifter is a little more notchy than standard but goes into gear ok. May just take getting used to i think.

Iirc it's possible to break the lock pin by using the shifter with the pin left in place, I think mine is broke lol.

These boxes are notchey no matter what you do, the shift mount bushes do make it feel a litttle more precise/connected though

Funny you say that I fitted those to. From Verdict motorsport in US.

There is some kind of spring in that 90' pin hole that feels like it is supossed to take up the tension when twisted into the shaft but feels too sloopy on mine.
