New 7x10's Fitted

Featured Replies

Just got round to fitting my Pioneer 7x10's on an MDF rear shelf. WOW! The sound quality is much improved over standard and there is mucho Bass! Might even be able to remove the box and get full use of the boot again.

All this and the speakers have been wired into my Pioneer head unit, not a seperate amp. The fronts now start to resonate a bit, but only when turned up to insane volumes, so doesn't really bother me too much. :D

Custom shelf, or did you buy it from somewhere?

Still got that spare sheet of MDF in the garage... I'm sure SWMBO would be overjoyed if I spent half a day building a false shelf :)

Made myself. Just got some 15mm MDF and drew round the outline of the OEM shelf. Then cut with a jigsaw. Simplicity itself. The holes for the speakers wasn't so simple and the carpet fitting was a bit of a mare. It's come out ok though. It does the job for me. Kind of wish I went for 18mm MDF now though. For the extra rigidity. :)

If I have time this weekend I might have a go at building a shelf - I've got all the materials sitting in the garage (bought a bit much for the boot install!) so shouldn't be too bad.

How did you fit the "rod" part that locks the shelf into place btw?

Didn't actually get round to doing that in the end. It just sits on the lip from the plastic side trims!

Was going to do it by drilling a hole in each side and cut some metal piping up to the right length and bond it into the hole. Will get round to it sometime. When I can be bothered! ;)
