VRS gearbox noise

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 vrs with about 100.000miles on the clock

Recently it has developed a marked clunking noise when power is applied via the clutch or lifting your foot off the accelerator & then re applying it

I took it to a gearbox specialist but they did not know what was causing the problem and suggested the box would have to come out

Any ideas?

Thanks

It might be a worn engine mount, but I'd hope the gearbox specialist eliminated that! Similarly with the CV joints.

Presuming he did, it could be the clutch, flywheel, diff or a gearbox bearing, all of which are gearbox out jobs. And since they're only golden, not crystal, I've no idea which it would be either! ;)

Did mention it to the gearbox specialist at the time but he didn't say anything

Have found the problem at last

Dual mass flywheel broken ended up burning out the clutch Garage fitted a one piece replacement flywheel said it caused a lot of problems on transits

That's a very good conversion and sounds like the gearbox specialists weren't trying to fleece you for fitting a single mass fly. Standard dual mass flywheels are prone to breaking and causing all sorts of problems
