IbizaOC's eMISSION Launch Charity Drive For Breast Cancer

Featured Replies

Hello to all IbizaOC members,

So, what is Ibiza OC's Emission Mission?

The Ibiza Owners Club Emissions Mission was created to help put something back into the ever-growing world we live in today.

Every day, millions of motorists world-wide are ever increasing their carbon footprint by producing copious amounts of CO2 emissions into the earth’s atmosphere. Car manufacturers have taken this into account and have started building new vehicles which produce low or even zero emissions when on the move.

But what about the cars we own and run today? How can we help? What can we do to do our part for the community?

Welcome to Emissions Mission

If you weren’t too sure what Carbon Offsets were, they can be used to compensate for the emissions produced by funding an equivalent carbon dioxide saving somewhere else. In our case, by planting trees.

By planting trees it is not only very easy to do but it helps neutralize your carbon footprint by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing Oxogen and wood for both humans and animals.

How it works?

Every year motor shows are held throughout the country inviting car clubs and car enthusiasts along to show off their vehicles.

Some members may have to travel for hours on end in able to reach these events. Thus producing a lot of CO2 emissions en route.

Each member of Ibiza Owners Club that agrees to participate will have their carbon footprint measured from their starting point to finishing point (the car show/event), and then back again.

We then plant trees to offset that carbon footprint so you feel better that you’ve done something to help along the way without doing anything special.

We’re happy, you’re happy and most importantly, the environment is happy.

Now the interesting part, the launch mission itself!

Of course, we’ll be kick-starting the campaign off with a bang…By driving from one corner of the UK to the other all in the name of charity. Breast Cancer Research will be our choice of charity for the launch.

To do this we’ll be using SEAT’s very own eco-friendly new Ibiza ECOmotive. The ECOmotive range by SEAT has been a big hit among ozone-friendly enthusiasts with it’s extra low carbon emissions emitting only 99grams of CO2.

But the challenge doesn’t stop there.

To make this even more of a mission for our budding driver he’ll be attempting to break SEAT’s book figure average of 76mpg throughout the entire 837 mile journey. The Ibiza ECOmotive’s tank holds 45 litres which (by the book) should see a total of 753 miles. In order for the challenge to be successfully accomplished an average of 84.5mpg must be obtained throughout.

Donations can be made for the main journey as a one-off. Or if the donator is feeling particularly generous, they may donate more per every MPG over the book average.

We see as a win-win scenario. The Ibiza ECOmotive will be tested to its limits, money is raised for charity and all the CO2 emissions produced will be transferred into plantation to help the environment.

The Journey?

837 miles of A-roads, B-roads, motorways and country lanes. This is quite a challenge but this is what makes it all the fun!

The Car?

There is only one car for the job, and IbizaOC have been able to borrow a brand new Seat Ibiza MK5 EComotive for the attempt! The Ibiza ECOMOTIVE spearheaded a new line that was soon followed by the León and Alhambra models. After the recent launch of the fourth generation Ibiza, the new ECOMOTIVE version is available, now even more conservation-oriented, achieving a record emission figure of only 98 g/km of CO2 and lowering fuel consumption to 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

These figures are unrivalled in its segment, and are possible thanks to the painstaking work carried out on the new 80 hp SEAT Ibiza 1.4 TDI equipped with the DFP particulate filter which in its own right already features excellent emission figures. Optimised aerodynamics, weight reduction and changes to the engine management have given rise to one of the cleanest cars on the market and leader in its segment. This is the only 80 hp model that features air conditioning, a five-door body and emission figures of only 98 g/km of CO2.

More information on the car, can be found both on Seat.co.uk website or on our own 'emission missions' page found HERE

The people?

Both myself, and my co-pilot Andy (C3ptik) are going to be doing the legendary journey from Lands End to John O' Groats! First off Andy has to get a train from 'darn souf up to the brilliant north, we will the head down to Lands End both preparing the car, and ourselves for the journey ahead! From there, first thing in the morning with a full tank of the devils fuel, we will head off to cover the 800+ miles, a estimated 15 hours drive (driving a normal speeds so will take us longer!) and once we arrive, we turn straigth back round and head back to Yorkshire! This is a challenge, its a diesel, its T. Spark, but this wont be no 0-60 sprints, track time or drag strips to look forward to, just 55mph and Andy's company!
