Scout - Fiscon or fatory bluetooth plus other questions

Featured Replies

Guys,

Looking at ordering a new scout, which i'd keep 5 years+ and just wondered am i better off getting the fiscon retro fitted as its undateable so should work with future phones, as the wife altea doesnt even see our nokia 5800 which is a real pain, can call through just no phone book etc.... and thats not acceptable for the new car....

Also any fl scout drivers, would you recommend xenons? As had them in my old scout and didnt get on with them, pushing on down bumpy roads they just kept "self leveling" and didnt really show the road ahead that well as a result.

Thanks in advance....

Personally, I'd go for the factory-fit. The new unit (week 22 onwards) works with both rSAP and HFP so should work with pretty much every handset out there.

Weve had our Scout for a few weeks with Xenons & last night around Midnight I did my first drive down country lanes in the dark & the lights are absolute pants !!!!!!!! The cut off to the right on the Xenons is to severe & on R.Hand corners your driving into a dark hole which means you need to drive slower than the road will allow. Main beam isnt brilliant, When on main the Xenon is so strong close to the car you get the feeling of a bright white area close in front with a yellowish area beyond, the white is so much brighter you are drawn to that area every time it picks something up. Compared with the Mk1 Octy with Xenons we just sold they are terrible.

Im hoping they are out of adjustment but I cant see how it can effect the dip cut off, I think its a trip to the dealer to check the adjustment & also seeing if the main beams can take bigger bulbs. I didnt try putting the fogs on as that may have illuminated the black hole on the right so will try that next time, illegal but better than hitting a brick or pothole at speed

On my Modified Mk 1 4x4 it didnt have Xenons & I ran with rally Bulbs (120W main) by far the best & with the manually adjustable lights you could turn them down when not pushing on hard. I had them for around 80,000 miles & no problems with the wiring taking the extra load & never stopped, even on the continent without deflectors fitted. I still remember the cannonball cruising through Sweden near midnight on a beautiful virtually straight road with around 150 on the clock & being able to see clearly, in hindsight crazy but it was the cannonball & we were running second :giggle:

Does anyone actually have name, part number or anything else about this new unit that would be useful while trying to order it as a part rather than option on a new car? I've searched all VAG sites high and low, you'd imagine there would be millions of news items or threads considering how utterly naff and useless GSMIII was, and yet I don't see anything anywhere except our own presumption that from week 22 a new unit is being fitted, which BTW, I haven't seen anyone even confirm on this forum beyond vague mention of ipod compatibility of what simply might have been GSMII fitted?

I would pay in heart beat to have GSMIII replaced and finally have full use of factory bluetooth with my Android phone but my local dealers are completely useless, I can't anything online about new unit and Fiscon box is simply not an option. I am not going to wire new microphone just for Fiscon, while having perfectly good, factory fitted active microphone in the ceiling light. "Plug and play" my a** Fiscon!

At least one person has got the new GSM III+ module fitted as it works with an iPhone

Still no word on retro-fitting the GSM III+, but Ben at Shark can retro-fit the GSM II for £282.50
