  1. All in favour of thread necromancy if it's helpful. Will do this next service. Still have it!
  2. Mine sipped water like that for a month or two before the pump went the first time. Can't say if it's the same reason, but had a coolant level warning a month before the first one went. Had I known what it was, I wouldn't have driven back from the south of France like it!
  3. I tried everything, but Platinum were definite in that I'd have to pay full whack for it as car was out of extended warranty. I tried to argue that the repair they did should have lasted more than a year and they said that's how long the work was warranted for. It was 18 months later(!), with no car to drive I took it to a local be specialist in sheer disgust. Wonder if I have any comeback with SUK as clearly a major issue and has put me off another for now, where the car has been perfect otherwise.
  4. I've now had this happen twice. On mobile so won't do the copy and paste yet, but 45 and 80k respectively, first time under warranty on my 2014vrs and was in the south of France in 32degree heat when the needle shot from middle to top end, very scary! Second time no costs covered, £480 quoted. Both platinum bath, but didn't go there the second time as they'd tried to charge me 600 for front discs and pads! Don't really want cambelt as a service item a third time, so hope the second pump fitted 2018 lasts...
  5. Thinking about keeping my VRS TDi 2014 estate for another year or so. Definitely getting clutch judder for first two changes from cold in the morning, and notchy-ness. Car has done 61k, have seen posts saying gearbox oil change could sort it out, is this a warranty thing or is it less hassle if I just get a local approved place to do the oil (have extended warranty).
  6. Tyres, tyres tyres. The OctyIII seems incredibly sensitive to them. So, as well as sawtoothing on both of the rears, I had a massive nail in the inside shoulder of one rear continental tyre, so these were changed, and the new maxxis which was all the garage had in germany when I had a puncture then too. Now got brand new goodyears all round and it's quieter than when new on the sport contacts! Rotational noises from front to rear and the over the top road noise on certain surfaces is a thing of the past. Finally sorted, 2 years into ownership! I note braking brings the sound back as the weight goes onto the fronts, so it's 100% rubber. So reassured I spent the day cleaning it after it's 3200 mile trip!
  7. I knew the decals and red piping reminded me of something... 20 years and another 100 brake! That was Corgi who came to photograph my actual 130.. Anyway, back on topic. I think the 230 looks stunning!
  8. Well have some new tyres ordered, hopefully get things tested before to the dealer on the 12th. And yes.. was kmh average, fully loaded.. not mph.. ahem.
  9. Would sawtoothing on the rear create a proper vibration through chassis / wheels? Tyres on rear are the continued sport c2s that it came with, so are due a change. In years of bolting old cars together I'd call it a rear bearing. The dealership didn't drive it either. I'll get tyres ordered. It's due in the dealer back home on the 12th so if it's doing it then they'll be tasked with it! Any good 4wheel alignment place around bath that'll touch a car with lane assist etc? 3500-10k miles on a bearing!!!
  10. Should have added that itw as a combination of business and pleasure that led me to Poland, and a UK dealer is actually having the car in to repair the SD slot on the 12th! This dealership just presented itself. Cookie if you get the dealership right haha!
  11. So had that weird wheel bearing noise looked at, at the other side of Europe as it turns out! The dealer was very different in attitude to UK dealers I've used. They dropped everything to check the car over first thing and none of that ever so slightly snooty aire some have either! Anyway.. on to the details.. as I know a few of us have this problem, and I'm not sure I'm 100% convinced yet.. but.. the said it was safe to drive, before showing me that the car had eaten the inside edge of the rear tyres (previously the fronts). hey said it was this contact with the road that was generating the noise, even a roational bearing type noise, and that both this and the previous octavia we're prone to suffering badly if the suspension / wheels / tyres are not 100% perfect. They checked the pressures and said they were bang on ( I check them regularly..) so I've drawn a bit of a blank, other than being concerned about the tracking.. although it's not eaten the two goodyears on the front yet.. What it has done though is made me slightly concerned about a chassis that can transmit so much from an IRS setup through to the bum dyno and steering wheel! I'l update again after another 1.5k miles.. So that will be Monday then..
  12. Happy to oblige on the way back, will try to shoot some video / grab some stills - although for some reason it's always slightly higher consumption on the return leg. Probably the car loaded up, eagerness to get back home etc! Certainly still showing 50mpg average this am. I guess it could be dropping down on the 130kmh stretches has balanced it out. Above 110 tho it plummets to 30-35! Still nothing compared to nursing a 3.2 petrol omega back with winter tyres!
  13. So... we did 1000 miles in it... Fully loaded with the OH presents for family. Sound is gradually getting worse, but not so fast I can't make the return trip *hopefully*! Interestingly, it's getting transmitted through the chassis and has me thinking it's front end again, even if it sounds like it's coming from the rear... If anyone else has rotational thudding with the booming, try depressing the clutch only 5-10mm, you can feel the same vibration as the sound you are hearing... perfectly in time, pulsing up through your feet. KristianRS, can you check this? I have checked tyres, alignment, and even after 10 hours driving, only stopping for diesel, all wheel rims are the same temperature.. Joking aside, we have a new car with international rescue, and I'm used to driving ancient cars all over europe... Luckily for me the sound is absorbed above 100 mph on the autobahn, but it has stopped me enjoying the full rev range in our new car.. )which averaged 50-55 mpg at 100-110mph consistently. The omega I last did this in, made 23 at that speed. Oh and the local dealer couldn't look at it until the 12th October despite the 2500 mile trip.
