Hi, probably the 1.2 may look a bit "small" but far from reality, in other VAG cars tests it develops really around 125 bhp and is more frugal than the 1.6 it replaces.

I can tell you that the 1.6 is enough for any use (may be not to tow a caravan though) and quite lean in fuel use.

Of course don´t expect any sport feeling in those engines....

Best thing to do .... try both of them in a dealer

For the estate, I'd go for the 1.4 to allow for it to be loaded up. As there is only about a £500 difference between the 2, it makes more sense to have the extra power when needed.

Go for the 1.4TSI - you will have more power and better fuel consumption. The 1.2 TSI in such a large car is thirsty - just look at the reports in the Yeti forum where figures in the low 30's are common and backed up by the findings of Autocar in a recent test. Don't believe "official mpg figures" because they bear no comparison to real life motoring.

The 1.2 TSi is only available in S & SE trim, not in the Elegance. More than happy with my 1.4 TSi which I'd imagine is better suited to the Octavia. It always struck me as strange that Skoda UK only have the Yeti available with the 1.2 TSi, again this would be more suited to the 1.4 TSi (IMO).

What typical real life mpg are you achieving with your 1.4 TSi Octy?
