uniroyal rainsport 2 tyres

Featured Replies

Just had a pair of new rainsport 2 uniroyals fitted, I told ablefit in bristol the size and they ordered them in.

Went in today and they fitted them, I have just noticed the speed ratings on both are V and not W what I told him. The tyres are fitted to the front. Will this cause problems? Or should I call them tomorrow

Cheers

Legally it wont be a problem - having said that manufacturers pick a speed and load rating based on the power , weight and speed of a car.

For the small price difference - I stuck with "W" rated tyres.

Hi, I've read about this before and as the tyres supplied from Skoda are W rated and the V rating is a lower speed rating; technically that is a standard below manufacturer's specification and may invalidate insurance as a result.

However, W rating is for speeds of up to 145mph (I think, someone may correct me shortly) which I would assume you won't be reaching. I forget the V rating speed but am sure it is adequate; it is just the insurance issue I'd be concerned with.

I guess you could call the garage and see what they can do, then call your insurance company and ask them. Not worth chancing in my view, I'd certainly chase it up.

W is 165 + mph

V is 140 +

I had the same thing on a car. They should be W. But in reality the insurance have no valid case to reject a claim. They would never be able to prove that this was the cause of the accident as it's not going to be the cause at 70 miles an hour.

It won't fail an MOT either. I'd not worry about it. I'd just think it as a lesson learned for future reference.

Cheers for the replies.

I must say I'm impressed with the tread pattern on these tyres

They do look nice - i've got them on both vrs' cars now. Lifespan of the tyre isn't going to be anywhere near that of the F1's or the Sportcontact2's but at £72.50 a corner I wasn't going to say no!

I just got 2 fitted to the front of my furb and they're really nice. The tread pattern is very sexual. I think kwik fit have pumped them up a bit much though.

How much did you pay out of interest? I paid 127£ just for tyres which I thought wasn't too bad.

OK, so the speed rating is different, but what about the load rating? That's as important, if not more so.

Do like the look of the RS2s plus they seem to have been reviewed well. Plus I found RS1s to be good when I last ran, if a little noisy. But that seems to have been addressed too :thumbup:

just spoke to ablefit, bloke was trying to tell me a V rated tyre was rated @ 160 mph + and a W was 150mph, they haven't got a clue!

was then trying to state that it won't be a problem as the speed rating is over 150mph etc, I've spoken to consumer direct and ( continental who own uniroyal ) and conti are emailing me a statement to state it's incorrect to go against manufacturer's recommendations on tyre sizes etc, I will then take this down to the tyre place and demand a replacement.

I knew they wouldn't play ball on this.

On the side of my tyres it shows 205/45 ZR 16 83W These are "W" rated tyres

The "V" rated tyres have on them 205/45 ZR 16 83V

Any ZR marked tyre is good for 149mph - the manufacturers also add now the V, W or Y ratings to indicate how far above 149 they are safe to.

V = 149mph

W = 168mph

Y = 186mph

Got the tyres replaced to W's, Dealt with another branch of ablefit - they sorted it without issues.
