V6 TDi emissions workshop

Featured Replies

Hoping someone could help me with this. I can only find info on the 4cyl for this problem. I'm getting the emissions workshop on the dash, i've tried changing the coolant temp sensor but no joy. Been told it could be the EGR valve piping, but i aint got a clue where or what i'm looking for. It could also be that it 's due a service and i know i should take it to a VAG.COM garage to find the reason, but i lost my job recently (and nearly our house) and i'm broke..... Any help would be gr8tly appreciated.. thanks

Hi, I have the same problem with my V6 TDI, I have found a mobile independant who has a scanner and he is sorting mine. had the egr valve and pipe work cleaned out, but not had the coolant sensor changed yet even though others on the forum say that is the cause, mine still comes on over 26c ambient and goes off at below 20c ambient, but the scanner still says egr valve, so having that changed this week, will let you know if it works, but an independant is much cheaper for everything.

Mine is sorted now. I changed the temp sensor on Sunday and had my ABS problem sorted out today. 20 minutes later all 3 lights have gone off so i'm guessing it was the brakes all along for me. Not sure how brakes are related to emissions but so glad its sorted... BTW the instructions on how to change the temp sensor are'nt the same for the V6. It's dead easy on ours cos its under the engine cover on top at the front of the engine. I had the airbox out and everthing looking for it, was about to give up when i just happened to notice it.. LOL........ Hope you get urs sorted soon.

How much is the temp sensor out of interest? My car has a weird problem where it loses power for half a second and the temp needle drops to no temperature. Might change it if its cheap enough :p

Thanks

Ian

The temp sensor is about £16 plus vat from GSF, from the stealers its about £30. And is easy peasey to change on the V6.. hth

Thanks

No problem mate. Just make sure u dont lose the o-ring when changing the sensor.

@ Dobie, i suggest you try changing the sensor 1st, rather than shelling out for a new EGR valve.. Got to be worth it for <£20....

What did you have done to the brakes to get the ABS light off, was it just the CV ring?

The dash lights don't always go off straight after a repair, some times it takes a few starts to let the ecu know the fault isn't there anymore, unless you Vag-Com them off, so it still might've been the cooly sensor.

Ye we put the new CV joint on. The ABS light went off straight away, and the emissions workshop went off about 20 miles later. It could of been the temp sensor that i changed the day before, just taking a while to sort it's self out.. I reckon it was all the brakes tho, cos the emissions workshop did come on just after we broke the ring on the original CV joint..

I have just changed the temp sensor, and my emmission light has not been on all week, but after changing and driving for a short while the bloody light has come on again but this time at 20c not 26 as it usually has been, so guess will have to go for an egr valve after all unless someone can suggest something else?
