gearbox

Whilst driving along a very quiet road tonight I could not help but notice that the revs are around 2500 at 70 MPH and as mine only has 5 gears would it be possible to fit a 6 speed box to bring the revs down and possibly get even better economy

Would the box from the 6 speed 140 bolt straight on along with the linkages

What would chipping do to reduce the revs???

Nothing, it's the gears and final drive that determine the revs at a speed.

FWIW the 6 speed won't just bolt on easily, and if it will at all there would be the new box and flywheel as a minimum.
