6X9's onto Standard Octy Shelf?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've changed all the Octy's speakers for Sony custom fits and swapped the Head Unit for a Kenwood Mask KDCW7027.

My next thought is to fit some 6X9's. I've been looking at the rear shelf and the low part of the shelf nearest the back seat looks tight for getting 6X9's in.

Has anyone tried it? Do they fit OK and is the standard shelf OK with the weight of 6X9's?

Thanks in advance,

Lee

I have some 6x9 Infinitys on the rear parcel shelf...they fit just....but it will depend on how thick the plastic surround is.

Parcel shelf actually has a metal plate running through it so, it will take the weight but it's a bit of bugger to cut.

Can I ask which model Infinitys? I was thinking of Kenwood HQ698's.

9603i - these are 3 ways and sound good...well to my untrained ears anyway. ;)

If you can be bothered best to head down to B&Q and buy a sheet of MDF and cut out a new parcel shelf. Me being crap with joinery stuff managed to do it in about an hour with a jigsaw. Then fix the 6x9s to it and you wont get any vibrations! Got some Canadian import 6x9's form Andy @ caraudiocentre.com and some audio cloth for a great price - job well done :) Sounds real good....

out of interest why would you fit 6x9's when the car has components as standard, go and get some decent components and it will sound lots better, especially if you fork out and get some with a cross over. big step backwards if you ask me

The rear 13cm don't produce any meaningfull bass and I can't fit a sub in the boot as I need all the space.

The placement of the standard components are not very good anyway IMO. The tweeter for the rear speakers is smack in the drivers ear. First thing I did was disconnect it and replace the rear speakers.

In an ideal world I would fit a sub and some 13cm components in the rear with surface mounted tweeters at the back.

I'm after an increase in bass depth without loosing boot space or the ability to quickly fold down the rear seats, which is why I'm thinking of 6X9's.

Dont bother with 6x9's unless you have decent components.

All of the music will be in the back of the car and it will sound as if the stereo is behind you.

And I certainly wouldn't recommend fitting 6x9's on the standard parcel shelf, they rely on a sturdy surface so that they can move air.

I too require all the boot in order to lug pc's around (and I bet it is already smaller than your Octy's)

Was planning on putting 6x9s in a custom made "stealth shelf" in my fabia and then change the front 6.5" speakers to something a bit better.

I already have infinity 9603i 6x9's from my old car and was very pleased with the sound and bass they could produce (nothing like what could be produced with a decent setup but more than ample for me) plus for the price you can currently get them for (

what about them clarion wotsits that fit under the seat?? small 8" subs i think, active too
