Lowest wheel offset?

Featured Replies

What are people with aftermarket or other VAG family wheels running on their Octy2s?

Std offset is low 50 isn't it? So would have thought low 40s would still be OK, factoring in perhaps lowering springs into the equation? They'd be 18s.

What's the general consensus? Something as low as 35 would cause an issue do we think?

Just considering options!

Thanks,

Steve

8J ET43 here Steve. Burned a hole in one of my front arch liners yesterday with too many lows. (hit a big dip too fast and got serious suspension compression) :giggle: Trouble is it looks too good for me to bring myself to raise it up any. B)

I ran ET28 for a week at standard ride height and it was rubbing loads. I'd say if you want to go low without faffing about with crazy camber and big stretch, you don't want to go lower than low 40s (at 8J / 225/40/R18).

do a search - its been discussed many times.

ET is only one aspect - you need to consider the width of the rim also.

Something like ET48 with an 8" wheel would be idea for a vrs - inner clearance is the same as an OE wheel and it only projects another 12mm outwards which should fill the arch better but should not be so far that it rubs (but do your own maths!)

HTH.

9mm outwards. BTW, 225 / 7.5J at ET35 works fine at standard ride height.

Thanks guys. Yep, fair point Rob - was just to get a rough initial idea.

In any case, it's likely I'll progress with Plan B, which I know to be fine ;)

Sorted.

8J ET42 should run along just nicely, shod with 225/40/18.

Super B)

sorry for bumping up this old thread but i started another thread with the same query,

will 17x7.5 ET35 with 225/45 tires be fine without any rubbing?

Thanks..

Yes at standard ride height. 225 on an ET35 7.5J clears the lip at the back. At the front if you lowered it significantly you might rub the arch liners slightly, very occasionally. I don't really like the look of ET35 at the front at standard ride height, it's a little too far out.

Holy thread revival!

Agree entirely. That offset coupled with a standard ride height will look, at best, a bit odd.

what about 17x7.5 ET 50, is that fine? saw some nice borbets in that spec, should it be fine the offset & rim width or will it be to much inside?

Thanks..

It's same as OEM, which is too far inside for most tastes.

the 17" zeniths are 7" in width i think with 54 offset right?

will 17x7.5 et50 be too much in for any rubbing?

any idea what is the width & offset of the neptunes?

thanks..

Pretty sure that the Neptunes are 7.5Jx18 ET51, so the wheels you're looking at should fit fine

As Julie has said, the OE 18" Zenith/Neptune is 7.5J ET51 which IMO sits a bit to inboard, I have just fitted a set of BBS CH reps which are 8J ET45, this size sits the wheel out 12mm further.......hmmm! Perfect - imho of course.

Thanks for the info about the 18" neptunes/zeniths, so offset doesn't change with rim size? just with the width?

so 17x7.5 et50 will fit identical as a 18x7.5 et50 ??

sorry for all the questions, very new to these things.

Thanks

take a look over on www.willtheyfit.com. Assuming you have the OE Neptunes put in 7.5Jx18 with 225/40/18 tyres as your originals, and then put in the dimensions of whatever wheel/tyre combination you want to buy - you will get a very good graphical representation of the differences between the two.

As above or I use this site.

thanks for the info guys, will go get the 17x7.5 ET50 rims

Oooer.

Anyone with any experience of 1"9 8.5J ET35 wheels, say with 225/35/19 tyres - do they fit without rubbing on a Mk2 VRS, and with which tyres (my experience is that the same width tyres have different tread widths)?

My calcs show that the clearance is marginal but theory and practice are often different (eg my experience is that the same width tyres have different tread widths and the effect of wider width wheels is less than 1/2 difference in width often bandied about as the extra tapers down to zero at the tread).

I am new here so forgive me.i have no idea what the hell these numbers mean and just want some slightly bigger wheels that improve my boaty lean on corners.i have added 15mm rear and 12mm front spacers (they came up cheap) which has improved handling a bit. i'd also also like to fill the arch slightly but not overboard, possibly 17s? Any advise please.😊 Thanks

Tyre,d..been through ****..about as deep as I wished...then more.holding on,gasping for air.deflated ,flat out..going no-where? Losing control..heading off course...down to the bear fabric of life hanging on to the last strands before I explode..and slowly going bald.
