Rear Speaker Replacement And Questions...

Featured Replies

Well...so you'd think...

Watch out for the Briskoda favourite - the Infinity's. The central tweeter on this does not sit

flush with the "rim" of the unit, so won't fit!

shugz has fitted the Sony XS-A1326 speakers (about 40 quid from Halfords), and he's pleased

with the results. Nice polypropylene cones like the Infinity's too. The only thing I'd not is

the lowest frequency on the response is 50Hz, whereas the Pioneers was 20. Whether this

would make a difference I don't know - I'd be inclined to think not... :D

Ithankyou :)

Hi Mark,

As Rob pointed out, I have fitted the A1326's made by Sony and found them to be very good.I did, however, change the fronts for some Pioneer's (TSE-1795's I think) first. I was pleased with the results of the front speaker change but felt the system was totally unbalanced (even when biasing it towards the front speakers). I decided then to fit the Sony's in the back and feel I now have a very full and balanced sound. I would like to go the whole hog and do a full head unit/amp and changer upgrade but that might have to wait a while as funds for that are a bit tight. As you have pointed out you don't really wish to spend a fortune on your speakers and that's totally your choice, all I would recommend IMHO it would be a better and more pleasant on the ear upgrade if you changed all 4.

If I can help any more just get in touch.

Cheers

Hugh

I presume no problem with the differing properties of mixing brands? Not as critical as home cinema where it really pays to stay with the same range of speakers for front, centre, rear, I guess?

In the fronts did you go component? Full range 17s? Standard fit front tweeters connected or disconnected?

Cheers,

Mark

No problem with mixing brands...in fact for home cinema I'd say it's not necessarily a good

thing either, depending on how you want it to sound!

My fronts are composite (mid/bass and tweeter), and my standard tweeter is also still fitted

as I quite like the effect the position gives, even if it can get a bit strained at volume. Ideally

I'd swap it for an aftermarket one, but they're deceptively expensive for something so small!

Hi Mark,

Please forgive my lack of ICE knowledge and I'm sure those that 'know' can correct me if I'm wrong, I fitted 17cm component speakers to the front (I think) and wired them up by just twisting both +v's together and both -v's and fitting them to separate spade connectors. I believe this disconnects the standard door tweeters (although I won't argue if this statement is wrong). The speakers fitted have in built tweeters anyway so it doesn't matter, Rob is this correct??

Cheers

Oh well... Deed is done.

Got some Pioneer TSA1310s. I said I had

Hugh - it's the second set of wires that allow the tweeters to work (something to do with the

crossover or something). So if they're all wired up, they'll all work, but the front tweeters are

nowhere near as intrusive as the rear ones. The Pioneers have inbuilt tweeters anyway, so

you should get a good dose of treble! :D

Mark - that's a bargain, especially with the adapters! Makes things a lot easier...

With regard to "proud tweeters", I suppose the easy way round this is to not tighten the

fixing screws as much, so the speaker sits lower... :D

Never heard of John Kleis though - is that a (local) chain, or independent?

Rob.

Hi Rob,

That's fine then, I now understand how the speakers are wired, thanks. I must subconsicously like a 'sharp' sound as I have tweeters in the replacement speakers and also the original door ones still connected but the treble doesn't really bug me, wierd eh??!!

Cheers

Hugh

Yes, but I'm much the same... :D

And don't forget the tweeters in your rear units!

Rob.

Aye, trebletastic or wot eh....???!!! lol

Never heard of John Kleis though

Local shop - not sure if they have other branches or not. Highly regarded I was led to believe and I understand why, now!

My DVD system has been delayed. It should be here in plenty time for my holiday, but the nice folks at John Kleis have said they would loan me a lower spec unit to tide me over the holiday should needs be :)

Regards,

Mark
