Variable Service Interval - Suspicious change

Featured Replies

April 08 registered 1.9 TDi Elegance, company car so variable service intervals. serviced so far at 18k, 37k and 55k approx

last week with milage at 63.5k came up with message "service in 4xx miles or 2xx days" , did not get the count down from 2k, it jumped straight in with 400 or so miles left.

If anything my driving style has been mkore sympathetic recently, not had to put any oil in since just before the first and second services.

Car is in today and have asked dealer to ckeck ntohing untoward is happening. Their initial response is that they have been known to reset themselves from Variable to Fixed ! ! !

I am suspicious because the car has decided to drop the service interval from 18k miles to 9k miles, it has gone in today with 64k miles on it and service indicator daying service now. Could there be something serious going wrong?!

I don't really care if it breaks, what I care about is the inconvenience I suffer if it breaks, especially if it does when I am abroad.

Anyone had this happen and is there likely to be anything going on?

I think that is their way off saying they ##cked up and reset the service intervals to fixed rather than the variable you asked for. :dull:

If it is they can explain to the lease company why they are servicing it early but I am not taking it back until it is serviced!

Does not explain the service in x miles or y days message - I believe the the fixed message is service in x miles and does not mention days!

I cannot say I have ever seen on re-set on their own!? Very strange!!

But Personally, as the car is now over 60K I would recommend popping the car back on to the fixed servicing 10K or a year which ever comes first.

:) Keep the engine oil nice and fresh and engine running sweet!

reset on their own read a person managing to do the fixed reset using the dash.

I however thing the dealer doing it is more likely.

I think it is dealer error as well, next time I won't query it until they have serviced it.

Lease car so I don't choose the service regime, Inchcape do.

I now have a car where the service interval display is blank ! ! ! ! ! Does it take a little while to start counting again?

They have offered me a free oil change before we go on holiday ! ! ! !

Yup, takes a few miles before it starts displaying the numbers again. Couldn't say how many though.

:giggle: If the cars are reset to 10k servicing isn't that more work/profit for the dealers ?
