Faulty Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71).....

Featured Replies

My 2003 Elegance estate TDi110 has a faulty V71 flap motor. When the ignition is switched on a constant clicking noise can be heard under the dash on the passenger side. The motor does work, and moves when the 'Recirc' button is pressed on the Climatronic control. The effect it has is the fan motor speed is very erratic when the V71 motor is supposed to be in the 'Fresh' position, and the fan works as it should when in the 'Recirc' position. This presumably is because the fan is momentarily stopped as the V71 motor changes position, and restarted when the ECU recognises the V71 motor is in the correct position.

This brings me onto the next point. I have VCDS, and the correct position of the V71 motor cannot be detected by the ECU, hence the clicking sound. In measuring blocks the actual measured values are both shown as 0. I have tried resetting the values but this doesn't cure the problem. The fault code 01274 is generated.

Has anyone replaced one of these motors? If so is it a difficult job to do and does the complete dash have to be removed, or can it be done in situ? The motor can just about be seen once the fan is removed, and I can just about reach the motor with my fingertips. Many thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer.....

It's a pig to do apparently!

I did it on my first VRS, the motor unit fits with a bayonet type fitting arrangement and has a small arm that needs to be disengaged then unplug the harness, fitting is a reversal, the only difficult being that you need to have either tiny hands or be a gyneacologist as its tucked away on the far left hand side of the dash, took me about an hour due to accessability but a simple job in itself, if it were not for the location it would take you under a minute to change
