Featured Replies

hey guys,

okay so i thort 5 min job sorted, but no.

i bought one of the kits from ebay, teeside vw. removed the old barrel, fitted blanking disk,

then fitted the cast blank item, every time i did the clamping screw up, the fudging thing went on the skew,

and by doin the screw up just enough to keep it in the right place. it was loose enough to just pull out,

am i seriously missing something here??

ive made my own one now with some m16 studing and a 5p.

I used the whole de lock bit from a rear door so no need to use a blank!! Had to soak the actual drivers lock in wd40 for a day tho before I could get it to shift.

Would do it myself be you just cant trust skodas unlocking from the fob all the time :'( you just know at some point you will be locked out your car if you delock it :giggle:

Forgive me if this has already been pointed out, but can you not literally just change the little plastic cap and be done with it. Then you can't see the lock, but it is still there if you need it?

Not sure if the little cap can just be swapped out, and if you did, then you stand a chance of getting some general dirt and grim into the lock which causes it to seize up. I try and use my locks (drivers door & boot) a few times a year as otherwise they get very stiff.....

I sometimes use my drivers door lock to close the windows when I get to work (and have forgotten to close the windows before removing the key from the ignition).

You can't just swap the caps as the barrel needs to come out.

If you have a lock in the tailgate you can unlock the car from there.

Use my key all the time, central locking not working because of water ingress in window motor on drivers door, alot of damaged pins and they ain't cheap too replace, so i'll stick with the keep fit option of using the key for nowemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Double posting. DOH!!!

I'm willing to take the risk. Boot lock will save me if I have issues.

My car is garaged every night so should be reasonably well protected from the elements :)

Have you tried your boot lock recently? mine required some TLC to get it work about a year ago - I had never used it on the 4 years+ of Octy ownership.... Mine live in a garage too (apart from when it is being used :giggle: ).

That's a very good point actually. I don't think I've ever tried it :o

i did this recently, didnt have any probs, you must have been unlucky, most fiddly bit is getting the little cap (5p piece type thing) in place.

Well worth doing imo however.....one major point that has been forgotten is that if you blow your central locking fuse and your car is deadlocked you will not be able to open the door again EVER.....well not ever, but think about it, front door deadlocked, fuse then blows, how to do open the door to change the fuse, you cant.

I relocated the fuse, by wiring in an inline fuse holder to the fuse location and extending it fitting it in the under dash try out the way.

If you dont have a rear lock you really need to do this as the only other way to change the fuse once the door is closed is break the door card off and disable manually.

Just a thought...
