Considering a VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been eyeing a VRS for a while now, I'm throughly disappointed int he BMW experience and am resolved to move away fomr that brand when I get my next car, I just cam't face much longer on the god-awful run flats...

I'm certain a VRS will be in the mix of possibiities, and I'd like to go in with my eyes wide open as to what I can expect.

I know the car is well regarded, but am interested in what the servicing regime and costs are like. Also, what are the best options to add tyo the car, assuming I get a new one?

Essenitally I'm after whatever info I can fit in my head, so I can negotiate the best deal from the dealer:) Which reminds me, I live in Southampton, are there any specific dealers to seek out (or avoid!)?

Cheers B)

I've had my Fabia vRS for about 3 months now and i'm loving it.

its a nice low milage clean example.

the servicing is every 10,000 miles it also tells you on your dash when its due e.g 1200 miles. Its expensive to get a service done from the dealers so if you get one new try and get a deal out of them, i was quoted £255 for a 40k service the other week.

I would deffo recommend one to any of my mates!

Hi Governor - have you checked my latest write-up post on BMWLand yet mate (in the 'Non-BMW Cars' forum)?

Also from Southampton and can't recommend Winchester or Botley I'm afraid.

Ordered mine at the end of June from James at Allams in Epsom. I was looking to get as close to the Drive The Deal price as possible and James gave me a price I'm happy with. Besides it's only a trip up the A3! The 2 dealers down here were completely uninterested in talking once I mentioned DTD.

If you get to the point of talking to someone give James (Allams Skoda) on here a PM.

Hi there, I'm local to Southampton so hopefully this info is useful.

I just picked up my 58 plate vRS estate bought from Meadens near Lymington, they couldn't have been more helpful, when I wanted a test drive they gave me the keys and let me get on with it.

Have a look at drivethedeal.com to get an idea of the lowest price they're selling for, and then you can work out if a used one is good for you.

I bought what is probably the highest spec vRS estate in the country, previous owner ticked every box it seems.

Good luck.

You could try Lee Cracknell at Sparshatts in Fareham. He seems refreshingly honest for a car salesman and a genuinely nice chap. Not sure if he can/will match DTD on price though. If you don't ask...

Go on then, list the options! I'm intruiged...

There isn't that many boxes to tick on a Vrs! Be interested to see what you've got that others havent.....

Go to Audi, drive an A3 or A4 spec it how you want it then go to Skoda and save 10k, that's what i did! I was astonished at the build quality and drive.

October isn't too far away now!

My car was specced (by the first owner) with:

  • Columbus Sat-Nav and Maxidot
  • Xenon lights
  • Front and Rear Park sensors
  • Auto-dimming mirrors
  • Privacy Glass
  • Bluetooth
  • Curtain airbags
  • 6 CD Changer
  • Metallic Paint
  • Space Saver Spare
  • Rubber boot liner
  • Floot mats

Not sure what else are options, but he added almost everything you could apart from the leather seats.

Yes, I can recommend the guys at Sparshatts too. They were very helpful when I was looking earlier in the year, with either of these guys or Meadens, you'll be fine.

Thanks for all the information chaps, I'll check out DTD, I usually look at the brokers anyway, but if there's a precedent set for getting close to their prices that's good to know :)

Herschel, I had seen your write up, I remember you posting on there when you were jumping off the BMW bandwagon, a move I very much hope to make soon if I can get the right cost to change.

Whats to consider? :S

Just do it, you won't regret it!

 Pagey - it's all about money in the end mate.

I'm going to give Sparshatts and Meadens a call tomorrow and see what they have to say, and what they offer on my trade in, I've also dropped James a line as well... I just need to convince the wife to get over her Skoda problem :D

Yup, that's certainly well loaded. You've probably got a great deal there! Enjoy!

Petrol or diesel?

Petrol or diesel?

I use the paupers pump :)

Bought new in May 2010 and done 9k it just keeps getting better!

Had Vdub/Audi previous and dont miss them!

Should have gone for the DSG though as most miles done on the Slowterway emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Going to Sparshatts in Fareham tomorrow, I asked for Lee, he seems a nice chap, although I'll reserve judgement until I see if he tries to rape me on my 3 series trade in...

It's a DSG TDi hatchback - I don't want a DSG so I'm going for assessing the rest of the car. Any pointers or things I should consider?
