What to do to brand new car?

Featured Replies

I will be picking up my 60 plate on wednesday  and would like some advice on what to do to protect it. I won't be able to commit a whole day to it for a couple of weeks but what can I do that wont take to long? Wheels maybe? quick detail spray?

Will the dealer have done anything besides wash and dry it?

Also what is the recommended polish/sealant/wax to use on race blue paint work?

Personally I'd wash it, clay it to remove anything the dealer has put on and then apply a couple of coats of a decent sealant (I prefer Jetseal), shouldn't more than a couple of hours. Same for the wheels as well.

If it's just High St available products then maybe a quick polish with Autoglym Super Resin Polish then follow it with the Extra Gloss Protection.

It may be wise to instruct the dealer not to wash it for you, as theyll likely do a poor job ad introduce swirls and whatnot. Wash it carefully with a decent wash solution and a proper mitt with a 2 bucket method.

I'm inclind to let the dealer prep is as I did with my previous new Mazda and now Octy. If you have a defect in the paint then its easier to spot at the dealer. As soon as you drive off the forecourt it all changes and they can blame you.

Once its home I'd just check it again and leave until you have some time, maybe after a week give it a wash with TBM and good shampoo, mitt and drying towl. cleanyourcar.co.uk are good, you can always ring Tim for help.

Once you have time, clay, apply a good glaze or AIO like AG SRP or Clearkote RMG and then wax. If you want to use sealant for durability, maybe Opti-Seal over the SRP or for wax then Colly (any of them!) over the RMG. Seal wheels with the Opti-Seal or the Colly and then dress tyres. I'd also get some interior treatment from 303 and LTT for the Leather and some Carlac glass polish/sealant. Give the engine a wipe over and then use a good QD like Clearkote QS for a wipe down on the paint and engine (use sepearate cloth!)

Post up pics when done!!
