New record - 10 european countries on one tank of diesel

Though this may be of interest, from http://www.bridgestone-eu.com/articles.asp?ID=81283

Gerhard Plattner, an Austrian journalist and specialist in fuel economy record-breaking, succeeded in crossing ten European countries using just one tank of diesel. This remarkable feat, accomplished driving a Volkswagen Golf V TDI running on Bridgestone B390 Eco tyres, earned him a place in the world-famous

Wonder how far the Fabia would get? Anyone want to try to break the record?? :)

Fabia has a smaller fuel tank, but Golf's average mpg was 53 mpg (if my maths is correct) so it might be able to compensate :D That's assuming that the record is going through 10 European countries on a tank of diesel so the mileage is fixed! :)

720 miles, - thats no bad going!

I reckon if you were allowed to use ferries, you could cover Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Wales and France in 380ish miles - thats 6 countries.

Then from France, you should be able to go on and cover Belgium - Holland - Germany and Luxemberg in 275 ish miles.

10 countries in 655 miles is probably acheivable, but duno where I would go from there, it would take about 270 miles extra to beat the record and get to Switzerland.

I reckon that the Golf did around 60mpg (not sure what exactly 4.44 litres per 100km works out at, but 4.44 is about a gallon, and 100k is about 60 miles) My Fabia would do 60mpg on a nice gentle drive, with skinny wheels on, and with a slightly bigger fuel tank could do the same thing, IMO. I'm sure 600 is possible now if I went from brim full to empty, and did 60/70mph all in one go. :D

Umm...surely he could do better than that?

Running mostly at 80-85mph i saw 430 miles across Europe out of my Octy RS. Sticking to 70 i'd guesstimate 450-500 miles out of a tank would be possible at a real stretch....

average of 60.68 mpg, not bad but surely a tweaked map in favour of economy could help. now get that done and run up/down a motorway all day and see what you could get
