Been and gone and done it

Featured Replies

After a few years with a Canon 400D, I've finally scraped together enough cash to afford to upgrade to a 50D.

First impressions are that it's huge and heavy after the 400D, but feels nicely put together. First pictures are pretty good, but I'm thinking that "L" series lenses will do more justice to the beast than my selection of EF and EF-S lenses. When I went on a photo safari at Woburn recently, I had the chance to play with a couple of "L" series lenses -100-400 and 400mm DO were especially nice to use, and gave amazing clarity and sharpness.

I'll post some results when I get some that I'm pleased with. As long as I haven't sold my computer to buy lenses :).

I feel I may have hit a slippery slope here!

Phil

PS 400D is in the "for sale" section at a bargain price!

Glad you like the new toy.

It is indeed a slippery slope - you will see me at the bottom !!

Hi,

50D owner here, and also called Phil.....

I went from a 450D to a 50D and never regretted the move. It's a real nice camera. You probably don't want to hear this but it really shines when it has 'L' series glass attached :)

the first L I got was the 70-200 2.8 IS and it remains my main stay to this day. 100-400 is a nice lens not to sure about the DO version, never used it in anger myself, but it doesn't get to good reviews.

If you want any help or advice about the camera give me a shout, i'll see what I can do to help.

Cheers

Phil

As Graham suggested, the slope is slippier with cameras.

I've spent a lot more on my camera stuff than on my car, and that's including the purchase cost of a new Fabia vrs!

I had a 50D last year, was a great camera especially using the L series senses in particular the 70-200.

I really want a 7D now but they are still megabucks!

Don't get a 5D mk2 or full frame, trust me ;)

Having used a crop sensor, moving over to full frame was just incredible.

I thought we had a gentlepersons understanding that you were going to give me your lenses? emoticon-0105-wink.gifemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I think you missed a very important comma in your post. I think you mean full frame is brill, so 'do' buy one?

I was offered a 5D Mk1 for a very good price, and I was tempted, boy was I tempted. But my EF-S lenses wouldn't have fitted it, and I knew I'd instantly want L series glass.

As it happens, I still want L series glass, and will probably go for the 24-105 when budget allows. So I didn't save anything there!
