Replacement 13cm speakers... Help Required

Featured Replies

In a bit of a dilemma here. I have been into halfrauds and looking at some 13cm speakers to replace them in my car (paper "nokia" ones).

I have found 2 and heard one of those and listened in awe.

They are the Alpine SXE1350S 13cm component Speaker and Infinity 5002i

I have already got tweeters in place in the car so the components are not a problem, but i am just looking at this price range only. Listened to some JBL and sonys there and was disappointed.

I need your opinions though because they sound totally different in halfrauds enclosures because they are huge boxes and not car doors.

The Infinity's are good...I've got their predecessor in the doors of my Skoda, and they do make a huge difference.

How good are the tweeters you've got? I found that the coax's really showed up the poor quality of the standard tweeters...

understatment of the weeek there rob....

or was that fabias are girlie???

maybe we need a poll

Well, I'm guessing that David is fitting them to his Roadie, in which case the tweeters might actually be quite reasonable... ;)

I'm saying nothing with regards understatements. :D

Lol tweeters are 1/2 decent and i feel they are a bit too far ahead of the cones in there. The cones provide enough bass but its not smooth and controlled, and comes in a lump that practially wrecks the speaker.

I went and had another listen and the infinities are now mine :). Sound very controlled and responsive over a range of volumes.

Had to get them because i like my music with volume and loudness off (not in a barryboy way) and it was struggling when i hit about 38/46 on the radio

However, you do now realise this will show up any deficiencies in the standard HU, so you'll probably be upgrading that within 6 months... ;)

Are the speakers in the same place on the Roadie as they are on the Coupe?

Lol - i have got a JVC HU ready and taken out of my Coupe (with line in for my mp3) so thats gonna be stuck in if its not up to scratch.

Speakers are in the doors on this so you've got a more suited space for them now :) rather than the dash  which is bad.

The tweeters are hidden in the air vents...... for some reason.

Here is the speaker below :o

I posted here for 2 reasons

1) speed of response

2) reliable advice

Was gonna post on the smart site but I would have been waiting ages for a response, and then it wouldnt be accurate and a yes/no answer :)
