Turbo whine

Featured Replies

I have noticed in the past few weeks that the turbo on my petrol vRS emits a whine for a few minutes when the engine is cold.

It's not the usual whistle that usually comes from the turbo but is more of a "siren" sound. Once the car has been driven for a few minutes the whine dissappears an everything sounds as it should.

The car has done 36,000 miles and I don't drive it hard, especially when cold. My journey to work is just over 3 miles so i'm concerned that the relative short journey is not helping, which appears to be supported by the fact that the car uses a fair bit of oil.

Any ideas? The though of forking out for a replacement turbo is the last thing I need!

mines doing same

Its a quiet whine but still their lol.. sounds like a servo doing its dooos lol

Im hoping this is a normal sound, Im picking more and more noises up at mo and worrying its not normal lol

Mine's just started squealing on spool up ....again. Last turbo was replaced at 14k, car now has 26k on the clock, not good. Sounds a bit like a belt slipping but apparently it's the vanes sticking.
