SUPERB MK2 OR FABIA ?

Featured Replies

Hi I have posted at the fabia slot aswell so here goes, thinking of down sizing to the fabia 1.6 cr tdi 105 elegance, the superb although superb its not practical for us,the wife is still saying its to long for our country roads and she hates the parking, parallel and in the shop bays,so we are on the verge of changing, the skoda main dealer did say its going to be a totally driving experience for us,noisier and not so smooth a ride but for us we are rural and I agree the superb is not really practical and the twin boot thingy is really not that practical either, there is only me and the missus in the car these days so do I really want to drag all that free space in the back or go for the fabia?

Ask to go on an extended test drive and see what you both think of the fabia, try it in all road conditions

Yes going for test drive tomorrow, not to sure of this 1.6cr engine not getting good responses ,the engine on my superb is awesome but superb is slighty impractible around here though, its going to be a difficult one!

The 1.6 cr unit in the Fabia will be more than required for the size of the car, its when you plonk it into a larger vehicle thats when the power to weight comes in

From the situation you describe the Fabia would probably be the best choice. Could I suggest you look at the estate version rather than the hatch so that you retain some of the "big car feel". The Superb is in a different league mind you .

You should have a very sweaty dealer at your disposal since he must be VERY keen to get his hands on your Superb!!!

Good luck with your test drive.

thanx comrades, I am starting to wonder if changing the superb for the fabia is not such a great idea, cheaper to run but not so comfy, I did notice the seats being just wide enough for my fat A*@e, so this might become an issue on the longer trips though,£125 v £20 road tax and fuel cost over 12months would be less, test drive first then decide what to do

superb will be gone in 12-14 wks, place the order for the fabia hatch 1.6 tdi cr 105bhp elegance black magic pearl effect with extras!

Madness, you've allowed a woman to have her own way, the road tax issue is less than £2 pw, and the fuel saving won't be an awfull lot unless you live in the car, your 105 BHP must've been returning a mid 40 anyway, the Fabia will probably only outdo it by 5mpg, so in effect you've probably gone from a suite to a dorm to save a tenner pw

You should've shown her the Octavia, I feel for you mate, you just ain't going to like the shopping trolley after the 7.5 tonner.

Well at least you can prove the wife wrong if your choice turns out to be flawed. I'll bet the salesman was on your wife's side as he will probably already have lined up a buyer for your Superb.. And made a tidy profit by the looks of things!!

My wife had an original Fabia bought new 7 years ago, sold it on and took on my L&K Octy when it was 18months old when I bought the Superb. We both noticed a step upwards Fabia to Octy and Octy to Superb so I hope 2 steps backwards suits you both.

Why not compromise.........yes it's possible then both of you may be more settled! Why not look at an Octavia - bit better spec, more engine choice, slightly more quality feel, big enough for your arse (!) and should you ever carry passenger's with legs then they too can ride in comfort! Boot space is also good for trips to the tip, supermarket and getting the luggage in to take the misses on holiday - all good selling points.

dont do it, i have had a fabia for 2 years now and its been good on fuel and reliable, but the car rolls to much and its not the most comfortable car in the world, so much so i have ordered a Octavia just to get that better ride, after your superb the ride will be dreadful.

Its done! part-ex the superb the thing is I went out in the fabia new face lift model and to be honest it was fine ,no more than fine it was great granted less space in the back but I never carry anyone now just air,its really not much less width ride quality on the motorway yes I agree won't be as smooth,I get mph in the superb around 47-50 ,however I think reading some of the reviews coming from the fabia owners, the likely mph for me will be at least 15mph more I live in a rural area were the superb is just impractible,to long and the boot thingy is not really that great in fact its a bit of a faf,I am 5ft5' and the thing is to boot is to long I cant really reach the end,the superb however is a great long journey mans car motorway cruiser not a counrty roads car,I love getting on to the A55 and banging it up to 5th armrest forward getting to 70ish and letting it eat the miles absolute heaven,I now I will miss this in the fabia but in time I will learn to love the furby :dull: the wiffie likes the superb thing is she's scared of pranging it,she knows she will feel the wrath of my anger and then I will say SORRY again :giggle::rofl: the difference in the drivability of the facelift model is better than the previous model and with all the kit i've put on it it should be a nice drive, its not just the less tax and more mph its the parking issue and these narrow roads the superb is a hand full so for those reasons I'M OUT!
