Fitted rear discs, problem?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, following from my previous post about replacing my rear discs (Mk1 vRS)

I managed to put my new rear discs on today but i am concerned that the offside rear may be stuck on? After a brief test drive the right rear disc was very very hot and looked like a golden/copper colour?, where as the left was what i would say was normal.

everything went well, but when i came to fit the right caliper over the pads & carriers it was a very very tight squeeze and i needed to rubber mallett it into place so the guide pins lined up. I wound the piston back as far as i could so i dont know why it appears to be constantly braking. I pumped the brakes prior to driving also.

The only thing that does concern me is my torque wrench could not get to the guide pins so i just did them FT. (as apposed to the correct torque)

Any ideas please?

Sounds like the piston wasn't fully wound back . The colour of the disc indicates that the brake is constantly "on" or rubbing quite hard . This golden colour normally indicates a metal temperature of about 240deg C . Finger frying temperature !

This brake problem needs fixing right away or the wheel bearings will overheat and all the grease will run out and then the bearings will seize.
