Diesel DSG

Featured Replies

Been lurking for a while and have been waiting to test Countryman (happening this pm) before deciding. However suspect that lack of D auto until Q2 next year will lean me towards Yeti. So does anyone know of a dealer running a DSG demo or with a stock car I could try and get my hands on to beat the dreaded wait ?

You won't find one to drive very easily from a dealer as they are all sold. The best thing you could possibly hope for from a dealer is a demo in a 1.2TSi DSG and a demo in a 140CR manual. Or see if someone on here who is near you has a Yeti DSG TDi on the way, maybe they could take you round the block in theirs?

My dealer (Sherlodge Skoda, Rainham, Kent) has a 140 4x4 DSG which I tested a couple of weeks back, whether that's local enough for you, only you will know. Just to be controversial I wasn't that fussed on it. Really didn't seem to want to change when I wanted it to, glad I waited to test the 170. I'm now trying to get a deal before the VAT rise.....

I miss my DSG. driving a manual around london is no joke. long live the DSG. most economical auto you can get. Well maybe BMW's 8?speed in the new 520d might actually be more economical than the manual version, but I digress.

They are designed for economy in D mode so change up fairly early, but you can force them up a gear usually using tiptronic. For example, my octavia would use 4th at 30 whereas I could use 5th with tiptronic and at 40 it would use 5th and with tiptronic I could just get it into 6th.

Sport mode is something else, which I rarely used, but did seem to improve throttle response as well as hanging on to gears for longer and change down to a lower gear earlier as you would expect. So I used sport mode when pulling out of junctions etc.
