led rear sidelight bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Can the standard rear light(side/brake lights) bulbs be replaced with new low watt led bulbs?

I heard that the blown bulb symbol will light constantly because of the low wattage the bulbs are pulling, thanks

It is possible to buy LED bulbs that are designed not to trigger most moderns cars 'blown bulb' warning.

However, LED bulbs should not be used on the rear lights.

The light clusters and bulb holders are designed to reflect a lot of the light emitted from traditional bulbs. This contributes towards a large amount of their brightness.

The light from LED bulbs is very directional so they do not allow for any visibility other than straight ahead.

I've seen a few cars on the road where LED bulbs have been retrofitted and they are far inferior in terms of their brightness.

There is no way to improve the level of brightness either as the fitment of the LED bulb is the same as a traditional bulb so for them to fit the number of actual LED's per bulb is limited.

OK, they might last longer and illuminate a fraction of a second faster but they won't be anywhere near as effective as the bulbs that are fitted as standard.

i've had some experiance this week and previously with fitting led's the truth is they are rubbish this week i bought some of ebay for nearly £10 thoght i'd get some good ones ( canbus error friendley ) wat a load of tosh stick with what you know i have since bought some osram xenon £6 look sidelights, the abayer says he will refund once returned try this link ..will
