1.6 versus 2.0 common rail diesels

Featured Replies

Hi. I'm about to order a new Octavia. Was going for a 1.6 but was disappointed with test drive today so am now inclined to new 2.0 litre common rail. Has any one had experince of this (Iliked the 2 litre PD but not tried the common rail)

You wont regret the 2.0TDI CR

IIRC the 1.6TDI is VED band C (£30) which is a decent saving over the 2.0 140 which is VED band D (£90).

The 2.0 is also something like £600-800 more than the 1.6 (depending on model).

Was the test model a new engine? if so it would feel very lethargic compared to one thats run in. Maybe try another test drive with another 1.6TDI just to be sure?

Saying that, the 2.0 140 is about 2 seconds quicker off the blocks.

It all depends on what you want in a car really, if you like a good B road blast then the 140 will be more rewarding to drive.
