A little bit odd

Featured Replies

Hi

Was just looking threw some pictures of the Skoda Superb Brunello, and i noticed something very odd with the backlights.. They are not the same, eventhough the car has the same license plate.

First picture

Second picture

Any ideas how this can happen?

1st one photoshopped ,you can see it goes down slightly where it would go into boot

ahh... right... Didn't think about that.

Strangely enough he/she made it ugly while doing it :)

More importantly... why have I just sent 5 minutes looking at the two pictures thinking "what's different"... it's been a long day :(

Sorry but I think Skoda beat them to it, the rear (tailgate) lights just don't look 'right' on the saloon IMO.

Don't think its photoshopped...If you look closely you can see the reflection of the buildings where the 'photoshopping' would have occured...Very difficult to do if not impossible!

So what is your explanation , the person has deleted fogs on boot, and smoothed them over, don't think so , would be illegal anyway

Definetely photoshop! Cut and paste building reflection where the left reflector would be!

I did something like that on a pre launch photo and adjusted the C pillar as well, didn't go down well with the folks at the time, I agree with Giz, the rear light's look gash, in that PS picture, if you could add to the bottom of the light unit, i.e into the top of the bumper, I think it might give the car a cleaner rear look, C pillar is deffo wrong though, it accenuates the length of the rear door, a bit less glass and a bit more steel would reduce that stretched toffee bar look on the side profile.

The superb mk2 is a very long car, much longer the the mk1, so its very difficult to hide the length. Both the hatch and estate are more than 16 foot long, and I quiet like the way the side profile and rear works. Having owned mine now for more than 6 months, it kind of grows on you.

According to Parker's figures to MKII is only 30mm longer than the MKI - but even so the MKI is a very long car

I agree - definite Photoshop and pretty bad too. http://skitch.com/stormbird/d5juf/superb-ps

I think where it shows it up is the rear door is so long and then meets a short boot profile, if they could sweep the rear of the door down to give the rear wing meeting point more of a continuation it would help, but right now it looks like someone took the middle of a limo and bolted the front and back of an Octavia onto it, it's still not a deal breaker for me, but if it had more of a Phaeton/A8 side profile I'd be polishing the bell about it.

is is basically a stretched Octavia so that is why it looks like one. The MK2 superb has nothing in common with the Passat (well except the door handles) and a lot in common with the octy. Look under the bonnet of a mk2 superb and its exactly the same as an octy, except the wings are a different shape.

Hej Mannyo

You are both right and wrong. Octavia is based on the VW PQ35 platform and so is Golf, Passat... and Superb. The big difference is that both Passat and Superb uses an enlarged version of VW PQ35 called PQ46. The enlarged PQ35 (PQ46) is both a little wider and longer in the wheelbase. Superb has then stretched PQ46 wheelbase to its full potential (2,8m instead of passats 2,7m) making it just a little bit longer.

I'm not

So in it's truth it's only "the same" if you refer to the modern PQ35 base platform that covers most of the VW group cars from about 4 meters to 4.85.

Skoda Superb (Typ 3T, 2008-)

Volkswagen Passat CC (Typ 3C8, 2009-)

You seem well informed tomcatdk. You wouldn't happen to know the difference in the interior seating widths between the BMW 5 series and the Superb ? Shoulder widths because whereas the Superb has fantastic leg space (especially in the rear) it appears much narower inside than a BM 5 series or Passat or Audi A6 emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Hi Stormbird

Superb comes with 2 different seats. The "Below Elegance models" and Elegance models. Elegance seats should feel a little more like a decent "sofa" and it should not differ from the passat seats. (Below elegance models probably comes with the same seats as the Octavia, but i'm not sure.)

The BMW5 is way different. With it's wheelbase of allmost 3 meters the backseats have lots of space and is not interfering with the wheelhouse. The superbs meager backseat witdh is a result of the backseats is retracted to the outer limits of whats possible because of the wheelhouse, thus creating the limousine effect with lots of legroom

In general, longer wheelbase equals wider backseats, unless they are doing tricks like in the superb :).

The backseats of the BMW 5/Audi A6 would feel like a ballet hall if they did the legroom trick like the Superb.

I get it but the rear leg room in my 5 series Touring is really tight - practically the same as a 3 series.

The Superb's is incredible but like you say probably because of pushing them so far back onto the wheel housings they have to compromise on width.

I guess it can still carry 3 in the back with better comfort than the 5 series as the person in the middle at least has more space to stretch their legs out to the front - instead of onto my front armrest as happens with my kids now in the Beemer !

Looking at the design of the BMW 5 sedan i can clearly see why you have so little legroom in your Touring. They adapted the same backseat positions from the sedan version instead of taking advantage of the fact that the touring has much better headroom thus making it possible to push the backseats longer back in the car (and do the "Superb" trick).

The BMW 5 Sedan on the other hand is not suitable for such tricks because of it's rather conventional sedan design dimensions.
