Finally got the guts to say..

Featured Replies

my turbo might be on the way out! :( I have read up on this whistle of death that sounds like a loud siren and I think I might be suffering from it. I wouldn't class it as loud but it is noticeable, it is also more or a whistle then a siren per say, but I don't know what is loud & what isn't.

Does anyone have any videos or recordings of what the turbo dieing noise is? Just incase I am being paranoid over it. Also, wore case scenario, what does a replacement turbo cost. is it worth looking at slightly uprated turbos?

I have seen lots of people talk about whistles which were caused by something other than the turbo directly. A split hose could whistle. Get it checked before you start worrying.

Ill take it in tomorrow if I can, worse case scenario what is a fitted new/recon turbo worth these days? Would it be worth going for an uprated one, or would that risk something else failing soon after?

Thanks guys :)

This?

Thanks for the link, mine is about 25% as loud as that, so happier, but still not out of the woods yet I think. I havn't noticed any drop in power or change in responsiveness (touch wood) but gunna get it booked it in the next couple of weeks just in case I think.

Next question is, does it start off quiet & get louder as the problem progresses, or is it a sudden thing?

Thanks :)

If the ECU registers significantly less pressure than it's expecting (boost leak or worse), you ought to get a warning light on the dash and a fault code stored.
