what k04 turbo do you use for upgrade ?

Featured Replies

As above there are different series numbers??? K04/015 and 022 and so on... Also does it make a major difference? and is it a straight swap do you have to upgrade injectors? if so does anyone know what you need...My k03 has a loud wine noise under boost so I think it is going.....so If I am changing it I thought I would get a better one..Also have caqr mapped in 2 weeks so want to get it done for then...

do a search it will help you alot

k04-053 turbo

k04 mannifold

3inch maf

custom downpipe

k04 oil and water lines

bam injectors

custom map

front mount if you havent got one

s3 fuel pump

to name but a few lots of work and not alot of gain imo

better off buying a k03s hybrid that will just need injectors larger maf and fuel pump and a custom map and should see you more power than the k04 and will work out cheaper

then with this power upgrade you have to look at upgrading the brakes and the suspension ec etc

cost for hybrid setup

turbo £800

injectors ( second hand ) £100

3 inch maf £30 -£40 second hand

fuel pump £100 second hand

custom map £300-£500

bhp should see you around the 270bhp mark

That little lot sets you back a LOT of money, you can factor in £650 for the custom Map alone and the best part of 2K for the rest of the bits second hand and you had better be damned sure of the history of the turbo and injectors.....buy a dog and the lot can easily go bang, I looked into this, bought everything ......thought about it carefully decided to hybridise the K04....thought about it a bit more,,,then cannily sold all the K04 bits at a profit! standard K03S does near as damn it what a K04 does with better spool, the K04 will only lose a well mapped K03s at silly speeds, from the lights.....low to midrange torque and faster spool and the K03S has it.......driven both and was a bit disappointed with the K04 . just my opinion though the beeza boys love em!

k04-053 turbo - £250-300 for a good low mileage one

k04 mannifold - Nearly new £100 or else it WILL be cracked

3inch maf - £75

custom downpipe - I bought a Blue flame one with Cat for £250

k04 oil and water lines £300 new, £150 used plus make sure oil feed is good or else BOOOOOOOOOOOM!

bam injectors - £100 - £150 for a good set...get it wrong and buy a duff set BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

custom map - £500 - £650 for a good mainstream one

front mount if you havent got one £300-400 Used

s3 fuel pump £75-100 used but again get it wrong and you've guessed ...........££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

So all in all £2k Plus fitting and ancilliaries of around £400......you are easily into £2.5K for and extra £25bhp (k03s mapped well with FMIC and full TB exhaust cat approx 230bhp and 260-270Lbs Ft torque,K04 mapped equally well is around 260-275bhp and 280-290Lbs/ft torque so that extra 30-40bhp and 20-30 lbs /ft has cost you in excess of 2K .....I guess you get the picture
