Skoda Superb III

Featured Replies

Hi

Just read from "Der Spiegel" that VW is ****ed out about the great succes that Skoda have had over the years. (Article)

One thing mentioned in the article is the likelyhood of a smaller and cheaper Superb in it's 3rd incarnation. :swear:

Talking about shooting yourself in the foot.

Isn't the bottomline that the more Skoda sells, the more VW Group earns?... Or am i missing something in the political mechanics of VW Group?

VW doesn't like it that Passat buyer's are buying Superb's right now.

Photos in last weeks Auto express of the next Passat looks amazingly similar to the current Superb!!

Don't you mean Korean, it looks jank imo, same creaky dashboard with no daytime appeal, big light's back and froint, and a typical VW con on their customers to say it's a whole new model.

There is obviously a much larger mark up available to the VW Group, from Audi and VW sales, compared to that from the Superb, and when they see people " buying down" from Audi and VW models, they get upset,

However this in my opinion is due to badge snobbery on the buying public's behalf, as who in their right mind would pay so much more, for a car, which might not be kitted out as well, just to have that "badge",

The more that move over to Skoda, the better,

That's more to do with the fact that the current passat creaks and doesn't feel like a quality car.

VW are just lucky they had skoda to pick up the losses or the buys that turned their noses up at the passat would have gone to another manufacturer, most probably not in the VAG group.

I'm lucky, my employer gives us a budget and we get to choose our cars from anything within reason based on current list price.

My first car in 2000 was a A3 1.9TDI and was replaced in 2003 with a Passat PD130 estate (model before current) due to a new baby; we didn't want a saloon. Test drove a current model Passat PD140 in 2006. I couldn't get on with the dashboard and the electronic handbrake was a joke, only worked correctly at most 75% of the time. Briefly looked at the Passat again now my Honda Tourer is being replaced, long enough to remind myself how much I disliked it.

IMHO the only thing going for the Passat estate is exterior looks, otherwise it is more expensive and inferior car to the Superb.

I otherwise it is more expensive and inferior car to the Superb.

Mondeo vs E Class comparison, I know I have a B6 right now, and it isn't the car my MK 1 was, it's way off bad, but it's like one was made of steel and the other of plastic, lacking in final touches that the Sup had as standard.

All it wants now is the chinese led rear lights put on the superb for the uk market and the next thing we will be hearing about is skoda rubbing shoulders with audi, and vw relegated behind seat. And icing on the cake would be skoda to anounce all their vehicles come with a standard 100,000 mile warranty with no questions asked !!

Maybe vw should look at their own brands and accept that skoda superb is better than their passats, build quality wise, performance wise and above all price wise....why pay more for something when you can get better for less !!

Very true - I thought it looked familiar and I think you've hit it on the head !

what made you get rid of the superb supurbia?? Maybe you can see why i want to hang onto my superb facelift....yeah i knows the engine is kaput, but until i get the funds for it to be looked at, and depending what the independant will see under the sump, it is worth hanging onto...at least it will have the skoda badge :giggle:

She got to being 6 yrs old and round the clock, I didn't really want to get shot of it tbh, and I miss the virtues of the car the Passat simply doesn't have, I just don't want you spending 4k + and ending up with a car worth 3k, or as it seems right now with Sup 1's, unsellable, bloomin bizzare really, they are cheap and offer so much more, yet no one wants one.

Well i think it wont cost that much, i'm kinda hoping it will be limited to 2 things....the pump and turbo...or if luck is on my side, just the spindle, but i am in for some expense, but at the end of the day, it will be nice to get the car back on the road, and if it takes another 40k miles or more to fail again, then that equates to around to another 6-8 yrs motoring, and it still wont have gone round the clock, plus of course there will be the usual maintenance costs during the ownership, but one would have spent that anyways, and i still have a pretty decent car....along with all the other high mileage superbs .

call me tight, but after shelling out a fair bit of dosh already for this car, i dont intend to let it go just because it has a problem....it can be rectified, and still be an asset , maybe not in resale values, but over the years, and the final projected costs of ownership over the years will make it eventually pretty cheap to own and run in the long term. Just got to wait n see what my indy see's under the sump and go from there. It would be cheaper to hang onto it and compare the costs of hiring a similar car say over 8yrs and adding that up is basically buying another 3 cars for the hire company ...so although i'm looking at around 1500 quid...its cheaper to repair and keep it, and cheaper than suk !!

That's SUcK you mean :giggle:

As long as you plan to run it to the death, it's a goer, but be aware they don't sell, and this is the only justification to repair it if you plan to keep it, lets hope it ends up being just a new spindle eh.

One can only hope supurbia, but anything that fails like oil supply and the items that its feeds, one can only think of the worse case senario, and i'm notorious for thinking the worst ! , but as my wife was going at a slow pace and shut the engine down, one has to be optimistic that we might get away with a small bill...but knowing what the kind of luck i get these days, i'm budgeting for around £1500, but i'll just have to wait and see what the indy says...just need a small win on the lottery :giggle:
