Depending on what cash you have to spend, £5000 will get 2004- 2006 Fabia VRS.

High mileage can be expected from this engine and transmission and body-work in general is sound.(Not counting paint-work damage/fair wear & tear.)

Cambelt,Water-pump normally fitted at about 4/5 years 50- 60,000 miles period and engine type oil crucial. (VW 505.01 spec)

Any service history is good and receipts even better.

Road tax maybe £120 some £125 annually. (One member later quoted only pays £110.)

Car insurance according to your age, shop around to suit your requirements.

Servicing 10,000 or 12 months but DIY if your confident enough (couple of specialist tools not expensive.)*

I get all my annual filters (oil/ fuel/ pollen/ and air) c/o E.BAY. £29.00. (Shop around for engine oil)

Fuel consumption 45 mpg or 10 miles per litre. overall, other members do achieve more.

Front tyres renewed approx 15.000 miles, rear last at least twice that if not swapped about.

Qwerts washer pipes parting at connections (2) when frosty weather about, (tailgate+ engine bay) just pop joints back together again.

Rewind tool required to renew rear disc pads. *

Gear-box level/filler needs splined key socket. *

Battery+ carrier needs removing to check steering oil level. After battery disconnection you have got to reset radio/cd code found inside Radio manual.( One touch front windows operation)= easy to do.

Most other things you can ask on this site, usually someone has done it, got the 'T' shirt. LOL

Good luck in your venture.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

1. What should I be looking out for when buying a vRS?

A tidy clean example with a good history. Even better if you can buy one from a long serving forum member where the car is well known.

2. What mileage is considered a lot for a vRS?

250,000!!!! Only joking , although this mileage has been seen AFAIK. 130,000 has been seen on here with original turbo and clutch that has had remap on for 70,000 and was still going strong. I would class high mileage as 180,000 on these PD engines.

3. Are there any important services that I need to check that's been done?

FSH would be nice but not essential. Timing chain must be done at 60,000 or 4 years.

4. What's the most popular re-map company for the vRS and roughly how much would it cost?

This is a matter of opinion but popular are Shark and Jabba on here. (Richard Washbrook is the daddy IMO for remaps though)

5. Is there any mods I should do prior to a re-map?

Maybe a Cupra 160 air intake and a green cotton filter or a bmc jobbie. New full exhaust system, I'd go blueflame TBH. Alternatively buy one already Mapped and modded :D

6. What's the most popular coilovers for the vRS?

Matter of opinion again. AP, KW or Weitec but there are loads. Don't go for cheap. You get what you pay for.

7. Are there any problems with running 17" Spiders?

In a word No. :)

Keep you eyes on the for sale section. I've heard rumour that there might be a seriously modded silver one with legendary forum status coming up for sale soon ;)

Road tax maybe £120 some £125 annually.

Mine's £110

Timing chain must be done at 60,000 or 4 years.

All Fabia vRSs have a cambelt - though the change interval is correct.

Watch out for weak front suspension - i.e. replacement bushes needed - and the steering rack (in my experience on my previous car)
