Oil pressure warning lights (or not) on models with Maxidot?

Featured Replies

OK, odd question here, hoping someone can help me out -

Is there definitely a red & yellow oil warning lamp in the instrument panel when you have maxidot/MFD? (This is on a 1.8 TSI Elegance spec)

When I turn on the ignition (but before starting), all the instrument panel warning lamps come on - but I can't see an oil pressure warning lamp (either red or yellow). The manual seems to think there should be a warning light there.

The reason I'm asking is that I just had the Maxidot flash up a warning message at me - "Low oil pressure, max rpm 4000". After leaving it half an hour, this message no longer appears (it was previously available under "Vehicle Status" in the MFD).

Am going to let the engine cool properly, then check the oil level and find some top-up oil if necessary. Just wanted to check whether the oil-pressure warning light is supposed to be there, or whether the MFD handles that (or if my warning lights have failed!)

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it's about the 11 o'clock position on one of the dials, but as I'm not near the car just now, I can't be 100% certain.

The warning light ï¥ on vehicles fitted with information display does not come on after switching

the ignition on, but only if a fault exists or the engine oil level is too low.

This is the quote from the Owners Manual. I noticed that the Oil Light on my SE did NOT come on when the ignition was switched on. So this is correct and the bulb is probably OK.

Thanks for that. Yes, I failed to RTFM properly  :-)   Completely failed to notice that footnote when I was looking the manual.

Just checked the actual oil level and it's fine. The warning flashed up after I nearly stalled the engine when parking this morning - I'm wondering if it's just a "false alarm" due to the dip in revs...  Got a bit panicked when oil pressure warnings started flashing at me in a brand new car!

ur lucky my new 1.2 s model lit up the oil warning light at 2000 miles, checked oil and wasnt on the dipstick...dealer had a good check and said no leaks etc , and refilled oil.....rechecked today at 3300 miles and half way down the dipstick  .....so its gonna be going back!...cos something isnt right , this is my 4th new car in a row and NON have used any oil between services

I keep a .pdf copy of the manual and brochure on line. It is much easier to learn about the car when looking up a specific point. For example - your question.
