Inner skins are actually pretty easy to remove

Featured Replies

With the help of a friend it took me 4 hours to remove and dynamat both doors inner skin and also the outer skin on either side.

I know that Ross Clarke is going to do a tutorial on this fairly shortly so i won't go into much detail but the main thing is to do is to remove the two main grommets exposing the window winder mechanism, take the window down so you can loosen off the bolts, make sure you don't take the bolts of completely

Go around loosening off all the bolts around the door

Then wind the window up and gaffa tape it in place making sure that you use kitchen roll or the like to stop the tape coming into contact with the paint work. Make sure you aren't sparing with the tape the last thing you want if for the window to come sliding once it is off the window mechanism

Roll the window down so the bolts are showing again as it is taped up the glass should stay in place and the mechanism should come down on its own. If it doesn't easily you need to loosen the bolts off more

Now this is where Ross and I might differ we ended up drilling out the 3 black plastic screws that hold the locking mechanism in place so therefore you don't have to remove it or worry about messing it up.

Once that is done you are free to remove all the bolts and wires from the door and take the skin off.

I make it sound very easy but there are alot more technical bits which pictures would explain. Unforunately i left my camera at home :(

Done the same to my drivers door the other month. Well worth it I found. JBL's sound so much better.
