Whining V6?

Featured Replies

I asked my dealer to look into a whining noise on my V6 that only appears on light throttle in 2nd/3rd gear - he agrees he can hear it but has no other V6 to compare this against to see if it's normal!!

He is referring it to Skoda UK to see if it's "normal".

Can any other V6 owner help out - does yours whine??

Or, are there any other V6 owners in the East Mids that can get their car to Farmers in Nottingham for comparison??

Appreciate any help

I think what you are hearing is the DSG, it's a slight friction sound in a way? see if the sound changes as the gears change, bit like a milk float sort of sound.

The DSG gets smoother in the top 3 gear's 3 going through to 6, it's a bit jerky in a way in the first 1-2-2-3, or that's how I find it anyway, if they can't find a V6, try a CR DSG and see if the same sort of noise is still there, you might need the car for a couple of hours to let yourself settle into it before you notice it.

I've got a bit of a whine on mine Geoff but between 4-5 when pressing on! I've always thought it sounded a bit like a supercharger but, maybe, a milk float is a better description!

Hi, old thread but I answer anyway.

Have a V6 Superb, 90 000 km, 2012 model. Whining started at 10 000 km got worse with every following 10 000 km. Today it's really bad, my local dealer says that it's a normal transmission whining. I have a car that I cannot sell because Skoda don't want to change the DSG. Never again a DSG from VW. Went to 2 independent shops who said after 10 minutes that it's a bearing in the DSG that's whining and I got a written statement that the DSG should be replaced. Even reported this within the warranty. Skoda apparently want my insurance company to pay the €10 000 for a new DSG

Goodbye, Skoda ! Maybe the new Volvo XC90 next time ....

Ye, I'd say mine whines too. It's very quiet, but it's the only noise you can hear from the engine till you give it some boot

i have noticed a whine on my vrs cr octavia only when at fast motorway speeds. when you take your foot off the peddle it stops. was hoping it wasnt a gearbox problem. was goin ti start a thread on it but you beat me too it lol

I have a V6 estate and it also makes a high pitch whine, particularly in the low gears. Will be taking it to Skoda to get it checked out and hopefully it's nothing serious. Love the car though!
