Sounds like you may just need a new auxillary drive belt. They go hard and begin to slip after a few years. Only cost a few quid, and takes 5mins to change.

The OEM for the wishbones is LEMFÖRDER, and that is what Skoda will supply. GSF sell them too, along with a budget version which I wouldn't recommend. The budget ones don't last long apparently, and are not recommended for taxi's or performance cars where they will see high loads.

Here's some pictures/info of when I fitted the Lemforder OE wishbones: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/133212-front-suspension-refresh-photos/page__p__1670288__hl__wishbones%20ball%20joints%20lemforder__fromsearch__1entry1670288

The other option is to go for a cast wishbone, as found on the TT. But to do that properly you will need the TT uprights too, as the balljoints differ. You can apparently adapt the TT balljoints to fit the Octavia uprights, but I'd personally do the job right and go the whole hog.

As far as I'm aware, no aftermarket 'uprated' options are available. Some pimp machined from solid aluminium or titanium wishbones would be nice though!!

With you saying you lose power as well it may be your clutch slipping & the noise your hearing is the release bearing. Does the noise sound like its coming from the drivers side front or the passenger side front of car?

Hopefully its as others have said & its a worn drivebelt, this wont cause you to lose power though.

could it be turbo seizing?
