Octavia II - Sawtoothing/ Rumble - Revised settings ?

Recommended Posts

Dear All

Any help here much appreciated. I have a 2007 Octavia II 140 tdi L&K, running on standard 225 45 17s and standard factory suspension.

I have owned the car from new , now done 54k, and consistently experienced stepping or sawtoothing and rumble, and uneven wear, from the rears, both on original Bridgetsones then replacement Avon ZZ3s

I managed to get good mileage from the ZZ3s by swapping them round, but still finished with uneven bald inside edges at the death.

I have now put 4 Kumho ecsta KH31s on , courtesy Blackcircles. I noticed after a 15 mile commute today that, as well as some (not bad) rumbling, the inside edges of both rears were warm, whilst rest of the tyre was much cooler.

I had the car fully realigned at Skoda York 12 months ago with printout etc - not sure if this included a camber change

??? Can anyone confirm a revised camber/ rear setting for my model which might reduce the noise and wear - I want to get good miles from this set of tyres !! ???

Thanks in advance !!

Do a google for a local geometry specialist that people say good things about. Found a great place in Edinburgh run by a bloke who knows his stuff, and he made a big difference to how the car handles. He knew all about Octavias and the revised settings.

* Geometry - 4 wheel alignment check. Willie at C.L.C.M Wheel Alignment Ltd

11, Bankhead Drive, Sighthill Industrial Estate, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH11 4EJ Tel: 0131 458 5559

I found out about him as I used have an MX-5 and he's well-used by people in the owners club. A bit of googling revealed loads of owners clubs for different cars in Scotland recommend him.

As well as doing a good job, he said any issues, bring it back and he'll sort it. Cost £49.50.

I think my 08 vrs Combi has signs of slight saw tooth going on, I often drive it with heavy load in back ( my 2 Newfoundland dogs which together make a 22 stone load ) and suspect that if it is not already set up to the revised Skoda settings it might benefit from it. There is no significant sign of uneven tyre wear but I do get the drone at about 40 mph, handling etc is all excellent but thought maybe check geometry and wonder if anybody here has a recomendation for some place in my area (or not too far afield) who can be trusted to do this for me - or should I just ask dealer to do it ? I am near Weybridge in Surrey, thanks
