recommendations for new turbo and clutch

Featured Replies

Hi, Have had the car remapped a while now, its 170bhp and 290Lbs torque, i think the clutch is starting to slip a bit and a guy at the remappers says he doesnt rate the turbo on the fabia vrs at all, anyone any ideas on clutches and turbos that fit that you would recommend, would appreciate any links, ideas etc, cheers!!!

If your sticking with 170bhp then the standard turbo will be ok but if you want to change it for piece of mind then you want a PD150 garret turbo from a golf gt tdi which are available in standard form or in stage 1/2, a stage 2 will be £1K+ and are available from turbo dynamics, cr turbos and probably plenty more places that do turbos.

As for clutch it depends on your budget, a helix/sachs SMF setup is around £1K or a sachs organic clutch that uses standard DMF is around £600 and are available from jabba, awesome gti and other stores that deal in car parts.

Unit 18 are doing hybrid turbos (CR I think) with a Custom Richard Washbrook remap for £1000 fitted at the moment. Another £750 fitted should see you running a Sachs Organic clutch with a new DMF. Give Ali at Unit 18 a ring or send him a PM as he can give you a proper quote.

[Edit]Just spotted you're in Norn 'Iron - Unit 18 are about 200 miles from the ferry terminal and it's well worth the drive![/Edit]

benifits of a SMF vs DMF?

DMF quells the engine vibration. Not 100% sure about SMF but I think there is some performance or durability benefit.

okay, thanks v much for input here, im not sure i have the cash at the moment for any of it, still debating whether or not i need any work done, its more a piece of mind thing, im basically worried the car might crap itself!! I had the remap off the car a while, then got the same remap put back on and it feels to me as if the cluthch is slipping in 2nd gearabout 3000 revs! It never did that when the map was originally on it! Not too sure what to do now!
