leather trim

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

I am looking to add leather to my Fabia vrs i know from this web site that Seat Surgeons do a great job but they are in York and im in South West Scotland i did contact a company in Livingston called Transcal and they want 1300 quid to do the work.

Was just wondering if the seats from any other vehicle in the vw gruop fit the Mk1 Fabia im sure i read somewhere a guy fitted Audi tt seats to his Fabia but for the life of me i cant find that post again.

I dont mind a bit of fabricating work to get them to fit.

Any help would be superb

They were in stuart_hatch's Fabia I believe - they were cream leather Recaro's from an S3 and he had to get custom subframes made up.

Personally, I'd bite the bullet and get Seat Surgeons to do it. Yes, it's a bloomin' long drive and it's £800+ but at least you know it will be done right and its probably the only mod you can do to your car that will actually increase it's value.

I bet you could drive over there on a Thursday after work, book into a hotel for two nights, get it done at Seat Surgeons on a Friday and spend Friday and Saturday looking round York - AND STILL be better off than the 1300 quid you've been quoted!

I've just been quoted £1,200 at Seat Surgeons South (more expensive than up north but claim they're better) but that's for Nappa leather, for normal leather it's £950 and up north it's around £800 but that's a 550 mile round trip for me.

So that's a day off work and 1-1.5 tankfuls of diesel. Well worth it to avoid that 'ripped-off' feeling I reckon.

I'm pretty sure the northern company will also want a further £200 for Nappa though so we're talking about £150-200 saving but it's a 550 mile round trip. Plus, if anything went wrong it would be really irritating having to do it all over again. I dunno what to do. :(

Hi, if its any use we have used transcal at work a lot to get leather fitted to vehicles. they do a great job and would recommend them to anyone.

What about buying a cheap, tatty seat from a scrappy, fitting that then posting off the actual seats to get them done? Means driving around in an empty car for a few days but beats driving up there.

I'm planning on picking up some better quality front seats (the vRS ones aren't broad enough across the shoulders for me nor do they have enough lower leg support) getting those and the rear retrimmed over Easter.

As I understand it all these fitters use a single leather supplier in the far east who supplies them with a kit of parts made up to your specification. If you just want something 'normal' they usually have stock. Failing that it's a couple of weeks. The difference in the price is simply down to the margin aspirations of the fitter.

Seat Surgeons in York are also renowned for 'doing a deal'. I know what the website says about prices, but there are lots of posts on here and plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that they are open to negotiation on prices for cash. Phone them up, ask for a Briskoda discount!

Get the better leather, its sooooo worth it!

I had TT seats in mine, wern't too hard to fit

transcal will probably be better as its completely custom

remember folks seat surgeons are just leather covers made in Taiwan or some other 3 world country
