Burning Rubber Smell

Featured Replies

We have noticed a burning rubber smell coming from the back wheels of our Yeti after a drive of about 20-30 mins - any ideas?

Not the same car, but the mk1 octavia does this too.

It only seems to do it after spirited driving though, and is most noticeable at the rear passenger side. I think it is the exhaust warming the tyre or rubber hangers.

Oh okay, thanks - we were wondering if the brake pads were rubbing too much as it is very strong on both sides?

It's a possibility. Are the wheels really hot after a journey?

Welcome to the fourm, by the way!

I would assume the burning rubber smell is the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) not quite finishing it's cycle. Happens with my Yeti to, after a 15 minute blast on the motorway, so perfectly normal :)

This is the case. I had exactly the same burnt rubber smell - took the Yeti into the dealers who checked everything and gave it the OK. I also checked the tyres and the brake disks Oh So Cool!! so no problem there.

I think that the DPF is "cleansed" as part of a test cycle when the car is new as it hasn't happened since.

Ok great - thanks everybody - I will keep an eye on it but won't worry too much that it is going to blow up on the school run!

Loving the car by the way
