Aim: quiet Fabia diesel

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine recently bought Fabia. He spends a lot of time in the car as he is driving instructor.

Since he drove my car he wanted to achieve the same soundproofing in his new car to not shout to the trainee drivers.

We have used Standartplast StP gold as damping mats and Stp VBT for the floor and stp AK10 and stp SPL08 as a sound barriers.

So we have started with the boot and the rear seat:

FABIA SOUND PROOFING

and next was the whole floor:

after damping mats we put some sound bariers:

how much weight has that added?

Can I ask how much it cost for the materials?

The wight is around 30-40kg in total (even with the doors which are not done in full as we are searching for speaker adaptors).

The damping mats are quite heavy around 3.6 kg per sq. m.

The sound barriers are aroung 0.3-0.4 kg per sq. m.

Regarding the price StP it's around half price of the dynamat price and we negotiated with supplier discount as my friend allow them to use photos of the installation on their website.

Check the prices on http://fasterthansound.eu/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=22 or on their Ebay shop.

We used in my opinion far too much damping mats as there is no need to cover every sq.inch.

We used:

three bulk packs of gold (around 42sq. ft each and few sheets of the third one has left) , two VBT (floor and under rear seat) two AK10 sides and doors, one SPL08 and one hood solution.

He might reduce costs to:

max two bulk packs of the gold, one VBT, one SPL08 and two AK10 and of course under bonnet one.

Now it's time to get speaker adapters and finish the doors and put decent HU with bluetooth and finish amp installation in the boot.

and finally the rest of the promised pictures:

Front door with vibration damper and later on with sound barrier:

The speakers were finally attached to the 25mm mdf rings (sellers sold him incorrect speaker adaptors)

The bulkhead was done as much as it was possible to get there from the top:

Finally bonnet received as well some dampers (as you can see conditions outside there is no need to heat it up even when it's sub zero temp. outside)
