How much to space my wheels by? any thoughts

Featured Replies

been loving the fabia since purchase but the one thing I notice is the wheels don't look quite wide enough. I have 17" spiders with 205/40 tyres and eibach springs. I wanted to get some spacers to widen out the track a little but cann't decide how much to go for. I'm thinking about 20mm on each corner but not sure if that'll lok right. Any thoughts from experience? I was even thinking on 20mm either side at th efront and 25 at the back. Any experience or opinions welcome. Will be looking to get coilovers fairly soon and lower about 50-60mm max, any thoughts as to whether this is likely to lead to the tyres catching the arches? cheers..

if you go 20mm you can use the nice bolt to hub style  i was trying to get my brother to do the same :giggle:

and when looking at it i reken it would be doable :smirk: if all fails... 195/40/17s hehe pull the tyre back in

if your going to do it buy one pair to check how it sits front and back... then get the 2nd pair for all round :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

let me knoew if you do bud. and if i talk my brother into it ... i'l let you know

The spacers I've seen are on ebay and as a set of 4. Not bolt on bolt on though. Just spacers with longer bolts. They aren't that pricey at £55 so I might just give it a go. It's annoying that I could machine some up if I had access to a well equipped workshop...

:wonder: not meaning to sound a git mate.... but if you go for 20mm id look at this kind of thing.. not cheap but the daddies

20mm is a fair bit to just use longer bolts.i may be wrong but i like to play safe....... ish :giggle:

fk do them to for less but the best :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: H&R

if your going to go longer bolts i would said ????? 10mm tops :wonder:

again tho its my opinions and they arnt wrote in stone for all ;)

what ET are you running?

the lowest you really want to go to is ET20 as any lower than this you will run into tyre hitting the arch issues!

So if the wheels you have atm are say ET40.... some nice hubcentric spacers in 20mm will be ideal!

don't get the hubcentric spacers like above as there just massive long bolts, get a kit that bolts to the hub independently then you bolt your alloy to the spacers via the standard wheel bolts!

Not sure off the top of my head what the ET of 17" Octy spiders is? Will look into it. I can't from an engineering perspective see why there should be an issue running longer bolts provided they have a high enough tensile strength and are correctly torqued up. If you were bolting the wheel to an independent spacer then presumably you are only getting just less than 20mm thread penetration into aluminium? Would make sense on maybe a 30-35mm spacer but I'd imagine you get a more robust interface with longer bolts and the steel hub at 20mm?

/\ lol dunno!!

spiders are et 38.....

lowest you can comfortably go on a fabia is et20.... but that was 7.5J wheels :/

so i'd suggest a 10 or 15mm spacer! to bring the wheel et to 23-28

or if you feel dangerous as the octy spider is only 7" wide a 20mm

:)

but if your going low it may catch the arches

et38iirc  whats 3mm between friends lol :giggle: or 37 ??? dam :wonder: now im questioning myself

lol jase go this edit in 1st hehe 20mm will be cool B) maybe some 195s :D

aye go 20mm stuff it!

just watch big bumps as it may catch the arch / archlining on the outside

Well I'm going to drop it but not mega low as its a daily anyway. Its on Eibachs just now and I'd like to get another 20-30 mil drop. Can't decide if its worth waiting for a set of weitecs, there are some fk silverline xs going for 450 with 3 months use or I might just go V-maxx as its not going near a track and I hear they are quite comfortable as coillies go. If that was on 7.5j then that's presumably giving an extra .25 of an inch which is just over 5mm... and I am running 205s rather than 215s.... hmmmm. now to decide would you go for it? 20 on every corner or maybe just 15, or maybe 20 rear 15 front decisions decisions...

on my fabia i ran

ET20 front with 7J they weren't 7.5J just remembered

ET25 rear with 8.5J

all with 205/40/17

and that was the comfortable limit!

VMaxx are okay, but the shorter drop links are rubbish. i needed 3 sets in 40k!

I've got the same dilemma, I have a set of 8x17 et40 5x120 bbs rf's which I'm thinking of putting on. What spacers are needed with them being 8's??

I'll have to do a bit of measuring tomorrow. Sounds like the back would be fine with 20mm but maybe keep the front at 15...

iirc anything below 20mm are not the bolt on fitment tho just so you know :smirk: unless its porsche pcd adaptors i beleve lol

Even though they were 16" OEMs, i ran 15mm up front, and 20mm rear.

Would've been spot on at that spec if they were 17" ones :)

I had Audi TT Comps (7.5J and 205/40 tyres on) on my VRS with 20mm spacers on the rear. Lowered on AP coilovers.

Caught the arch on every bump emoticon-0149-no.gif

i have 2, 10mm and 2, 5mm spacers if you wanna try them out on your car, can only find two long bolts though so you could only fit and check stance rather than drive it to see if it catches, i'm in Balloch btw but often at Greens gym Finnieston if any help to you

Absolute awesomeness mate :)

Those tt rims out like that should be now made legendary lol

Fahooking wicked bud ,

Thats how i imagine the spyders with 195s

Good job

I had another set of TT comps with 195/40's all round and 20mm spacers out back and they still caught the rear arch so they were straight off!

Was that due to being 7.5s too? Or just to low on the spacers?

To low on the spacers. Would of been fine with 10-15mm spacers

Waky, that would be amazing if you could! I'm in Dennistoun but I could arrange to meet you at some point. You interested in selling them at all?

Cheers.
