I have been without regular access to a car since March and so you can imagine how uplifted I feel on hearing that my Yeti 140 SE (no sunroof) is at last with the (second) dealer. My initial order fell through when the first dealer was apparently disowned by Skoda.

For those who are waiting, my wait time will have been 20 weeks and 1 day. I was expecting the car to have been shipped via Sheerness but instead it was transported from Grimsby, no doubt for economic reasons.

Also there has been much debate on the forum about what wheel sizes are authorised by Skoda. Much to my surprise I had a very constructive reply from SkodaUk saying that, for the configuration of my order, they approved the fitting of following wheel sizes:

205/55 R16 94H 6Jx 16

205/55 R16 94H 7Jx 16

205/55 R17 93H 6Jx 17

215/60 R16 95H 7J x 16

This is fine for me since I was particulary interested in the fourth option.

The only problem I have is that the Service Manager is refusing to agree that the car is set up as an Australian car via the VAG Comms and then set back to UK working via the Maxidot, i.e. so that I have the option of mph or kph. I will try to speak to the Service Manger directly rather than working through the Sales Rep. I have also written to SkodaUK asking them if there is a reason why what I am asking for should not be done. To me it is a simple software change that only affects the Maxidot. I suspect the Service Manager may be misunderstanding the Regs (or not understanding what is affected by the change or only does what he is told to do) but there again perhaps I am wrong in thinking that the car only needs to have the facility of displaying mph or kph, not necessarily both at the same time. Has anyone had this sort of problem with a Service Manager?

He wont do it because it takes the vehicle out of the regs it has been Type Approved to for the UK. If he did it and it was found out by VOSA it leaves him and the garage open to very severe threats of prosecution and possible loss of the business.

The only way to get it done is by an indi.

And to be honest, the fact that the Maxidot is in KPH really isn't a problem.

Many thanks for your encouraging view concerning the maxidot setting. Hopefully I will get used to it.
