Fabia 2 1.4 TDI 5683 mile review

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I thought myself and Skodagirl1985 would put up a 1000 mile review of our Skoda Fabia 2 1.4 TDI Estate, we've only had the car 3 months and we've just covered 1000 miles in it. The car is a 08 plate and had covered 9197miles when we picked the car up on the 19th August 2010.

We bought the Fabia to replace a unrealible Ford C-Max Zetec 1.6 TDCI Zetec which we owned for 11 months, before that we had a Skoda Fabia vRS which was running 167BHP, so we felt going back to a Skoda was the right choice to make, mind you the Fabia Estate was a comedown from the C-Max we lost 10BHP going down to 80BHP, and from the Fabia vRS we had nearly lost 100BHP!!. We never test drove the 1.4TDI so when we picked the car up and turned the key I was filled with dread with the noise, compared to the C-Max it was a lot noiser. But aside from that the Fabia has never missed a beat and is as much fun as our old vRS!

I've added mudflaps front and rear, Mats and painted the Calipers and Drums Skoda Green, I've got a few other wee mods to add but want to keep this car Subtle, Car also has Briskoda number plate surrounds and the Brisky sticker!

Positives:

For the trim level (2) there is still a decent spec of kit aside from Fog Lights and traction control it is well equipped.

No creaks or rattles.

Handles very well for a estate, feels like a hot hatch if you work the gears and is as much fun as my old vRS.

MPG is good we return 45-48MPG in town and on longer trips return 55MPG and more if we drive frugel.

The engine produces 90.5BHP over the claimed 80BHP from Skoda Rolling roaded at Extreme in Whitburn.

Negatives:

The only negative thing I can find with the Fabia is it's started leaking oil from the tandam pump which Skoda sorted yesterday but I've got to keep an eye on over the next week in case the car needs to go back to Skoda again

Cheers

Davy

I have the same car with similar mpg, it has just done 27,000 miles. It runs great the only problems being that the suspension is far to soft and bouncy and the air con is not very good at clearing the screen. Other than that every thing is fine.

I have to agree the air con takes ages to demist the screen, I'm guessing because it is a small screen it can easily be misted up.

How do you know that your engine delivers 90.5 bhp ? If this is a rolling road test figure then it probably an optimistic reading .Most rolling roads are not calibrated correctly & can't directly read engine power at the engine but read bhp at the wheels and then make assumptions for the gearing loss to arrive at the engine bhp. These assumptions/allowances for transmission losses are very "iffy" so don't believe all the reports you see. I've never heard of a pessamistic rolling road output figure , I wonder why ? Could it be that the customer who is paying for the test does not want to hear that his/her engine output is low - especially after re-mapping ? .

Aye it was a rolling road result.

Hi all,

I thought myself and Skodagirl1985 would put up a 5683 mile review of our Skoda Fabia 2 1.4 TDI Estate, we've only had the car 11 months and we just stuck the car in for it's first service and MOT and the car sailed through the MOT not a problem with only needing the rear brakes cleaned up!

The car is a 08 plate and has now covered 14880 miles.

But aside from that the Fabia has never missed a beat and is as much fun as our old vRS!

I've added mudflaps front and rear, Mats, Fabia boot mat and painted the Calipers and Drums Skoda Green, I've got a few other wee mods to add but want to keep this car Subtle, Car also has Briskoda number plate surrounds and the Brisky sticker and I have fitted LED Number plate bulbs (Thanks to Mike B), Fabia vRS K & N Filter and I also have a whiteline ARB to be fitted as well.

Mainly Skodagirl1985 has been driving the car in prep for her advanced driving test with the IAM so the countless lessons have bumped the miles up this year as it laid parked up for the best part of 5 weeks of November/December last year with the snow.

As the miles mount up the engine keeps getting better and better as it loosens up.

Negatives:

The only negative thing I can find with the Fabia is it's started leaking oil from the tandam pump which Skoda sorted yesterday but I've got to keep an eye on over the next week in case the car needs to go back to Skoda again.

Washer pump has been fixed and also replaced in January of this year and I also had to get the drivers seatbelt replaced.

Cheers
