heater fan

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2000 Octavia Tdi SLX and it sounds as though the heater fan has started to pack up. A week or so ago I started to hear a rattle when I turned on the blower and I cannot adjust the speed. Currently it [the fan] either doesn't at all, it rattles or is intermittent. When it rattles there is a slight flow of air regardless of the speed setting. As winter is just around the corner I want to get this sorted as the car is having misting problems.

Any thoughts?

Neil.

A rattle sounds like an issue with the motor bearings I'm afraid.

If the switch starts to fail (not cars with push-button controls, eg Climatronic) it's usual for the low speed to go first, then the others from low to high in that order.

The switch will be OK. What you need is a new series resistor. It's a common fault.

Ah, I'm used to the resistor pack being part of the switch, or the switch contacts wearing out.
