Octy vrs estate replacement speakers

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice on the replacement of the standard speakers ie what make will fit in existing apertures how easy the job of trim removal is etc. Think the standard speakers are not bad but i want a bit extra !!!. Any help appreciated.

I fitted 17cm pioneer component set in the front of my car, the problem being part of the window frame gets in the way of the larger magnets that you'll find on replacement speakers. This can be cut back a little without any problems.

The door cards can be removed easily by prising apart the handles, removing the window controls panel by prising it off and undoing the 3 screws in there. Prising off the tweeter housing and disconnecting them. Prise off the housing for the mirror controls and remove the screw behind there. Undo the torx screws running around the rear, bottom and front of the door card. Pull the card away from the bottom of the door. Disconnect the light at the bottom of the door card. Lift the door card upwards to release it from the door, this can be a pain. Remove the light from the lock plunger and finally disconnect the door release lever. Fitting is the reverse........just remember to make sure the top edge if fitted properly into the groove by the window.

The passengers door is pretty much the same affair.

how much has the sound improved ??

You can get shallow speakers that will fit in place without having to cut anything back or remove the whole door card as the grille just pops out.

My advice would be to go to your nearest decent car audio dealer and ask them to see what they have that will fit.

What are you planning on changing?

Just the fronts?

Fronts and rear?

Head unit?

Sub and amp?

Not really into a subs n amps been ther seen that ...had the car nicked ....just want a good quality sound, possibly change all the speakers and cables, should hopefully make the desired difference.

In that case I'd look at a new head unit and replacing the front speakers with something better costing 70 - 100 quid.

That should be a big improvement over the factory fit tat but not be too much of a target for thieving gits

I went for components to keep the sound stage in the front better. Left the rear spekers alone, just disconnected the rear tweeters at the rear woofers. I took the cards off on mine to fit the crossovers into the map pockets and to run the wires up to the tweeters. Basically, I replaced all the wires.

The headunit had been replaced within an hour of having the car.

Did I notice a difference, hell yeah! More bass, more powerful, yet softer high notes and crisper mid-range. Well worth it in my opinion but everyones different.
