17" v 18" wheels

Featured Replies

Much prefer the look of the 18's but does the ride suffer much ?

Trying to find an VRS and not sure whether to settle for one with 17" wheels or not...

thanks

Not tried a vRS with 17s, but the ride with 18s is not harsh at all (imo obv). It's definitely firm/sporty, but not hard. Also "imo" but if you're going for the vRS you have to go for the 18s. :)

From about 07 onwards you'll have trouble finding one without 18" alloys. They were part of the free upgrades that went on pretty much every car, 18" alloys, dual climate, rear e/w and jumbo box.

I test drove a car on 17" and I didn't notice a difference on getting mine with 18".

Price of tyres isn't that different either.

Previous (08) vRS had 17's, current has 18's. No difference in ride quality to speak of.

They do look much better.

Mine is on 18,s & other than a bit of low speed 'jitteryness'(is that a word :) ) which i dont really notice until a passenger points it out,i think mines much better than my old one which was on 17,s.

I think I had similar "jitteryness" when I changed my Scout's 17" wheels to 18" with 245/40 R 18s. These had previously been on a vRS locally. Don't know whether it was just new tyres or the higher profile (245/45 R 18), but thankfully drives normally again and certainly less hard. This tyre size only just fits the Scout so wouldn't suggest it on anything with less clearance.

Not surprised, as the standard width for the 18" vRS tyre is only 225.
